I did a long word study on this in the English (DRB, Darby, AV, Merriam-Webster), Greek (Vines, Strong's, Thayer's, including LXX), and Latin (Vulgate), for this word which does not appear anywhere in the Bibles except the Catholic ones.
The word means "worship," which in the Greek and Latin means "to bow in homage to," exactly as the Islamists do many times a day, and as David did in praying to the Lord in 2 Samuel 7:18. Despite the desire of Roman theologizers who wish to diminish the force of the term so that it can describe thae attitude taken toward images representing Mary of Nazareth, it means
as in
"For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God" (Rom. 14:11 AV).
I see no place in Scripture commanding us to "venerate" Mary, Jesus' mother; not by Him, not by his Father Fos, not by the Holy Spirit, not by any writer of the Holy Scriptures.
Do the same for yourself, and you will find no difference. You can toss the partistics as "authorities" on this. Stick with Jehovah:
"Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness
of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the
earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them:
for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the
iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third
and fourth generation of them that hate me, . . . " (Deu 5:8-9 AV).
The enermies of God, Christ, and the Cross are . . .?
"And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I
had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet
of the angel which shewed me these things.
Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy
fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of
them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God" (Re. 22:8-9 AV).
And is not Mary among the worshipers, rather than being conjointly worship-venerated??
