Pope Francis has said that the Roman Catholic Church should apologise to gay people for the way it has treated them.
He told reporters that the Church had no right to judge the gay community, and should show them respect.
The pontiff also said the Church should seek forgiveness from other people it had marginalised - women, the poor, and children forced into labour.
The Pope has been hailed by many in the gay community for his positive attitude towards homosexuals.
But some conservative Catholics have criticised him for making comments they say are ambiguous about sexual morality.
Speaking to reporters on his plane returning from Armenia, the Pope said: "I will repeat what the catechism of the Church says, that they [homosexuals] should not be discriminated against, that they should be respected, accompanied pastorally."
Pope Francis said the Church should seek forgiveness from those whom it had marginalised.
"I think that the Church not only should apologise... to a gay person whom it offended but it must also apologise to the poor as well, to the women who have been exploited, to children who have been exploited by [being forced to] work. It must apologise for having blessed so many weapons."

Bunny Law gets $5,000 a month from the Archdiocese of Boston. I am very involved in the Knights of Columbus and have great sources.
Funny, as I recall. The most infamous Child Labor occurred in Victorian England where Protestants ruled industry. The of course there’s China. But who are we to judge? Right La Papa? that’s a joke.....
Oh and how does the Pope feel about the Christian genocide currently going on in Muslim lands?
How about speaking out against the wholesale murder of homosexuals in the middle east by ISIS and the like.
just what world this Pope is from.. is difficult to discern.... it was clearly one without the Bible, however
Are his comments real, or satire?
Frankie ain’t no pope. He’s all pope hat and no sheep.
Both!
God’s Word on sexual matters has been for our good.
Marriage was made for people to have helpmates of the opposite sex, as each sex is better able to do some things, and to have children, who would help them and eventually take care of them.
And so-called “sexual liberation” is risky even in our time of modern medicine. Before modern medicine, a society practicing sexual promiscuity - a “hook up culture” - would have brought nothing but physical misery and death.
Yet the secular humanists pretend that the Bible was from the beginning just written from prejudice and hate on sexual matters.
If anything, the Church should apologize for allowing homosexual priests into the priesthood, and for not being more courageous in the matter. But I don’t want to criticize the Church, not being Catholic. I liked the last two popes.
this one.......................eeek
No. As a matter of fact, the Catholic Church has ordained thousands of them as priests over the years.
You have to wonder if this guy has ever even OPENED a Bible.
The B-I-B-L-E
Yes that’ the Book for me.
I stand alone on the Word of God.
The B-I-B-L-E
The Bible is the inerrant Word of God. Apply the scripture to all of our social woes and watch the Hand of God move in this country. . .for that matter around the world.
The poop’s infallible.
Better start apologizing Catholics.
I am not a Catholic, but I was always under the impression that it was a very conservative church. Maybe I was wrong.
I have my issues with the Catholic church, but right now I just feel sorry for Catholics. I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be to have this imbecile in charge while John Paul II is still in living memory. As they say in China, oy vey!
I dont listen to antichrists’ babblings.
When did he say this insightful quote?
Now that the Pope is saying the Church is wrong about homosexiality, the faggots will start lobbying for the rights of homosexual minors to be sodomized.
Sadly I do not the date or circumstances behind this remarkable expression of wisdom.
