The first Russian Orthodox monastery could be opened in the US capital of Washington D.C. or in its vicinity, Metropolitan Jonah, a bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) told.
In the area, not necessarily in D.C It will be Russian tradition, of course, you know, the services will also be in English, as well as in [Church] Slavonic....[The monastery] has a very specific outreach [program] to educate people about Orthodoxy and Russian culture and Russian spiritual culture, Metropolitan Jonah said, answering a question about his plans to establish a monastery in Washington D.C.
The monastery would be designed for educating people and would become the first Russian monastery in the vicinity of the US capital, as the only existing Orthodox monastery is of the Greek tradition, although, it had previously belonged to the Georgian Orthodox Church, he added, noting that the most important current task is to find the required funds and a suitable site, which may be outside of the city proper.
We have the Holy Archangels Orthodox Foundation, which has been supporting my ministry
which will be a good initial basis to support the monastery. Its hard to state [the amount of funds needed]. If we go in stages, we could get started from about $500,000. To build a complex, it will probably be at least two million, the bishop outlined.

Good. We need the prayers
During the age of the Soviet Union, the Russian Orthodox Church was infiltrated by the KGB. I hope these people have been identified and kicked out of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The Russian Orthodox Church (which is approved in Russia) supports Putin on this new law because it sees the evangelical Protestant churches as a proselytizing threat to its own members. Foreign Christian missionaries are limited by bureaucratic paperwork for required registration that keeps them from coming to Russia or returning if they leave.

Maybe the Russian Orthodox Church should experience some American bureaucratic paperwork.
Having live in Alaska I rather have that than MOSQUE
OUTRAGE!!! ROCOR IS POACHING ON WESTERN ECCLESIASTICAL TERRITORY!!!!
(Heh heh....just kidding. I like to tease the Russkies about this. :)
Russian orthodox is antichristian? I don’t think so
This Met. Jonah is a convert from Episcopalianism and was the head of the OCA until he was forced out for a whole host of reasons by the bishops of that church. At one point the convert population in the OCA had great hopes for him. ROCOR is heavily convert and so may have assumed some of the OCA’s enthusiasm.
Russian Orthodoxy has sometimes been called Christianity’s dark side. Pogroms & that sort of thing. It’s once again the state religion of Russia as it was under the tsars. No other Christian branches allowed, says the latest `ukaze’ from Putin.
That said, the ringing of Russian church bells is cool to listen to. Always liked the sound.
Its too bad our government is focused on islamization of north america and not the extreme threat of nuclear annihilation from a coup of Russian Protestant Generals fed up with Hillary and the NATO oligarchs. Russians are extremely paranoid and would rather pull the trigger than wait and see.
Russian Orthodox, Anti-Christian???
The Orthodox Churches are VERY Christian and are one of the oldest sects in Christianity, if not THE oldest. They were around much longer before Western Protestantism was invented.
Yes, the Communists infiltrated the Russian Church decades ago but don’t condemn all Orthodox for the sins of the Communists.
I am a parishoner at a ROCOR church in the USA.
Well tgeyre not going to come over here and kick out the Protestant Churches and not the Roman Catholic Churches any more than tge Mormons or the Masons have done nor the KKK did for that matter. The only group that comes close to threatening to do that is Islam which, because they use violence, does threaten to do that and, I might add, they’re only a threat because we had a bunch of pussies running our government and media at the time that they invaded. Still do.
I don't think that there is ANY country outside of China and India who have bureaucratic paperwork like the Russians do.
My mother went to Europe...and Moscow way back in 1973. She said it was amazing for its bureaucracy. Never saw anything like it.
new laws by approved by Putin ban Protestant Christian evangelism and missionary activity in public, online, and even when meeting in homes
UNREAL.
Where did you see me condemning all Orthodox Christians? Russian “church” is an FSB department, tasked to brainwash sheeple in hatred towards anything not-Russian.
If you don’t trust me, ask any non-Russian Orthodox Christian. Russian “church” is pure hate and envy.
The church in the article is the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, which is not under the FSB-front Moscow Patriarchate. Anti-Communist Russians formed ROCOR because they recognized the Soviet-controlled Moscow Patriarchate for what it was.
“After decades of separation, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia officially signed the Act of Canonical Communion with the Moscow Patriarchate on May 17, 2007, restoring the canonical link between the churches.”
