Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Character Studies From The Bible

John

The Gospels)

(Acts 1)

12 Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk[c] from the city. 13 When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. 14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Forty days after the Resurrection, Jesus leaves instructions for His Disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they are empowered by the Holy Spirit, and then are instructed to go through all the World with the Gospel. Then He ascends to Heaven.

The Disciples are gathered together and wait ten more days until the Jewish Holiday of Shavuot, which in Greek is "Pentecost" (meaning, "50 days").

During this time, Peter takes care of the business of replacing Judas Iscariot, but it is obvious that they all are shaken up with the events of the past few months.

From this brief Passage, we see that John has been faithful to the command of Jesus from the Cross. Jesus' Mother, Mary, is now living in Jerusalem with John, instead of in her hometown of Nazareth. In the first few chapters of the Book of Acts, which are mostly about Peter, John is always by Peter's side, preaching and ministering to the people of Jerusalem. But as the Book progresses, we hear more about Peter, and then, the latter part of the Book is nearly all about Paul.

It is probably safe to say that John continued to care for Mary till she passed on, and although the three major branches of Christianity disagree somewhat on exactly how that took place, the Book of Acts is silent about it. However, we do know, from this verse, that she was with John and the Apostles in Jerusalem, and was present during the Infilling of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

We also know that John kept his promise!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

_ HEN returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.
And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."

Mary was unique. She witnessed the birth of Jesus, His death. And the birth of the Church.

Joining in prayer, left that other site, for Israel, our beloved America, and all God’s people.
