Talk is cheap. Sorry; I’ve lost all confidence.
I have always appreciated your thoughtful and skilled apologetics. I have to disagree with you here. Francis has issued numerous statements that economic issues are equally important to pro-life issues. He has counseled us not to be obsessed with abortion, to the exclusion of other issues. I wondered if he would have issued the Bernadin “seamless garment” doctrine to Mother Teresa?
I’m not one of those Catholics who thinks Francis is the anti-Christ or was the result of an invalid election. However, I am one of those Catholics who cringes every time he speaks. He’s not inspirational; he’s disheartening to me. My soul literally aches for a Catherine of Sienna or a Thomas More to speak the truth to power and rebuke him for the politicizing the Chair of Peter.
I view Francis as a chastisement upon the Church. He is what the mystics from Jahenny to Emmerich warned us about when they said priest will fight against priest, Bishop v. Bishop and Cardinal v. Cardinal. Most of my friends in the St. Thomas More society in Maryland feel the same way, within varying degrees
It’s necessary to throw some bones out.
And despite those quotes, he has thrown himself into politics and made clear what side he is on. It’s also just not possible to put issues into compartments as if they have nothing to do with each other. They do.
Pope Francis with Italian abortionist Emma Bonino
In a February 8 interview with one of Italys most prominent dailies, Corriere Della Serra, Pope Francis praised Italys leading proponent of abortion Emma Bonino -- as one of the nations forgotten greats, comparing her to great historical figures such as Konrad Adenauer and Robert Schuman. Knowing that his praise of her may be controversial, the Pope said that she offered the best advice to Italy on learning about Africa, and admitted she thinks differently from us. True, but never mind, he said. We have to look at people, at what they do.
Joe Biden just officiated a homo marriage this week.
Cardinal Wuerl hamming it up with pro-abort, pro-homo Joe Biden.
Donna Wuerl refuses to enforce canon law 915; yet Francis refused to accept Donna's mandatory letter of resignation on Wuerl's 75th birthday.
And Pope Francis elevated Donna to the Congretation for Bishops, while at the same time removing the truly Catholic Raymond Cardinal Burke from the same.
