The state doesn’t rule the church, and the church should resist.

Persecution is better than contamination and infiltration.

Cardinal Zen is a living saint who has risked his life to defend the Church in communist China. Benedict as pope was very concerned about this state dominance of religion, and I cannot imagine he feels passive about the current pope weakening the traditional position of the Vatican.
