Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Character Studies From The Bible

John

(Revelation 3)

To the Church in Philadelphia

7 “To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:

These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 8 I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. 9 I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars—I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you. 10 Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.

11 I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. 12 The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name. 13 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The little congregation at Philadelphia (Turkey, not PA, LOL) was neither strong nor wealthy, yet the letter to them commends them. There are no harsh words, only a warning of rough times to come and a promise of protection. What made this little group different from all the rest? The clue is in the name of the city, which, we all know from American History means "The City of Brotherly Love". One wonders if the people who live in Philly these days understand the real origin of their city's name!

Along with comfort and commendation, Christ clues the Philedelphians in on the harsh testing which is to come over the world in a short time. His also promises glory and victory to "those who overcome". May we all be "Overcomers"!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"The City of Brotherly Love"

He's not heavy - he's my brother.

Here's another detail from the page about the letter nun and its relationship to the Mashiach:

It is interesting to note6 that in a halachic debate, the final verdict in Jewish law isn’t necessarily bestowed upon the one who is the more intelligent. Rather it is decided based on the opinion of the person who is the more humble. What does the Torah tell us about Moses? Not that he was a brilliant scholar, but that he was the epitome of humility.

The same is true of Joshua, Moses’ successor. As some sources compare Moses to a fish, a nun,7 because he was taken out of the water by Pharaoh’s daughter, so is Joshua called “ben Nun,” the son (disciple) of this great fish (Moses). Torah does not inform us about his intellect, but rather that he was Moses’ disciple—that he was always at Moses’ side and in Moses’ tent. Why did he merit inheriting the leadership of the Jewish people from Moses? Because he embraced the quality of humility with his entire being.

Even before King David became king he was known as “the final verdict.”8 King Saul, his predecessor, was brilliant, but the halachah was determined according to David. We know that David was very humble; he is called “the servant of the L-rd” and “My servant David.”9

Nun — Mashiach

Revelation 3:7-8

And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth...
halachah was determined according to David

Humility, a foundation stone for loving kindness, mercy and compassion... for proper judgment of the Law.

Psalm 118

18. The Lord has chastised me severely; but he has not given me over to death:
19. Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go into them, and I will praise the Lord:
20. This is the gate of the Lord, into which the righteous shall enter:
21. I will give you thanks; for you have answered me, and you have become my salvation:
22. The stone which the builders rejected has become the head stone of the corner:
23. This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes:

Genesis 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

Compared to

Gen 28

10 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.
11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.
16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.
19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.
20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:
22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

Humility, a foundation stone for loving kindness, mercy and compassion.

My servant Jacob... My servant David...

Hosea 6:6 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

Revelation 3:12-13

Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

"The City of Brotherly Love"

He's not heavy - he's my brother.

THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"The Church at Philadelphia"

_ ND to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;

8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
