I’m not sure why so many side with Hitchens. He clearly despised religion with a passion. She was hated because of her opposition to abortion & contraception. She recognized the value of suffering & saw the suffering of Christ in those she tended to.
Personally - I’ll take the side of the sweet old lady who did her best to love others.

What a beautiful woman of God. No doubt she earned her Golden Crown and is residing in Heaven. I am not Catholic but I see her as an example of Christian who worked on God’s behalf on this Earth. I know Mother Teresa does not look like that but perhaps younger and strong. Mother Teresa what a servant of God you were. We miss you here on this Earth but one day I pray I can meet you in Heaven.
Of course we all know the REAL reason. ABORTION. She was unequivocal and unapologetic in her defense of the unborn no matter who she was addressing (are you listening Bill & Hillary?). That kind of boldness against a sacred “right” the Left holds dear was intolerable. I really admired that about her.
I believe many in this increasingly secular world resent her because she showed the clear moral superiority of Christianity over Hinduism and secularism; Hindus and other leftists were content to leave these people to die in misery.

How does the world gain from people's suffering? Especially since much of the suffering could be relieved by pain meds the money for which was ample. Her organization was well financed by all known accounts.
Its an anomaly for which I cannot account for.

In 1994 Mother Teresa delivered a no-hold-barred pro-life speech at the National Prayer Breakfast in front of Clinton, her equally pro-abortion husband, then-President Bill Clinton, and Al and Tipper Gore.
“I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child, a direct killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother herself.
And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love and we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts. Jesus gave even His life to love us. So, the mother who is thinking of abortion, should be helped to love, that is, to give until it hurts her plans, or her free time, to respect the life of her child. The father of that child, whoever he is, must also give until it hurts.
By abortion, the mother does not learn to love, but kills even her own child to solve her problems.
And, by abortion, the father is told that he does not have to take any responsibility at all for the child he has brought into the world. That father is likely to put other women into the same trouble. So abortion just leads to more abortion.
Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. This is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion.”
Mr. and Mrs. Clinton did not stand and did not applaud.
