I’ve seen an increase in cremation among people who would normally not even consider it, due to the expense of traditional burial, even among my own family. Not Catholics, but traditional, southern Baptists. When even the most economical burial is over $10,000 not including headstone, and when a lot of people are stretched financially, something is going to have to give way. Compared to cremation at I believe less than $1,000, more and more are going to choose to take that route. I don’t like it myself, the obliteration of the body, by fire, is not good symbolism, not good at all.

On a related note, we have a private family cemetery, not altogether common among old, rural southern families. In the past several years, there have been burials of unrelated people there without permission. When contacted, the families usually say the deceased was a friend of the family, one just said they always liked that spot (does have a pretty view). But, we suspect cost of a burial plot had a lot to do with it. We’re not going to force somebody to exhume and rebury their loved one, so what can you do? We started locking the gate with a note to call a relative nearby to unlock it. Everybody in the immediate family has a key.

I can understand your confusion.
In spite of the fact that the Holy Ghost in thousands of historic Sacred Christian texts is represented as a flame...

I’m actually considering doing that at someplace like an acre or two on my Nevada property. Most likely will never be disturbed and spectacular view for any visitors...
