USA Today headlined it this way:

Pope: Women will be banned from priesthood forever

Stupidly worded headline. Saying women are "banned" implies that women were once priests but can no longer be, or that women COULD be priests but the Pope doesn't prefer that.

The fact is that women never were priests, and COULD never be priests.

It's like a headline saying, "Men banned from being unicorns forever."

Sez who? The Pope sez who!

They never were eligible. Just like husbands cannot be wives, and moms cannot be dads.

Oh heck.. I am immmediately withdrawing my little post of a few seconds ago

it was just a stray thought about how we are all being subjected to all of these new-fangled “controversies” (especially since Obama got into our WH)

but I am NOT up to any flames from anyone who might not be quite on the same wavelength as my cracked sense of humor...
so I withdraw it, anyone thinking of flaming me can go quench hisself please, or whatever.

thanks.

Dorcas had the first church in her home; she read Paul’s letters and then they sang Psalms. It’s in Acts.

Bergoglio never said, “never”.

He said this:

>>Francis responded: “If we read carefully the declaration by St. John Paul II, it is going in that direction.”<<

And as we all should know. Bergoglio has never been one for following directions. Take for instance Bergoglio’s absolute rejection of Pope John Paul II’s Familiaris Consortio.

Journalists always say that contraception is “banned.”

To say that something is “banned” implies that there are no reasons for the “policy.” It’s arbitrary, irrational, etc.

I would have a TOUGH time being a priest, or would we women be "priestesses"?

I can JUST hear myself:
a. It's been 10 YEARS since your last confession?! WHAT is the matter with you?!
b. After confessing a few particularly egregious sins: You did WHAT?!! HOW COULD YOU?!?! Are you NUTS? And did you HAVE to do it FIVE times?!

Pope John Paul II's justification for the ban was that Jesus selected 12 men to be his apostles and zero women, setting a precedent for how the church should proceed in the future.

Yet Bergoglio had taken it upon himself to wash the feet of women and muslims on Holy Thursday, even before he changed Church discipline to fit his whims with a wave of his hand.

I don't understand why this is ever a topic of discussion. Our Eucharistic theology requires that the alter Christus offering the sacramental sacrifice embody the original Christ who offered the original sacrifice. (Thanks to Mad Dawg for the verbiage.)

Anything else casts doubt on the incarnation of the Son of God as a human man.

If an average suburban mom with a degree in Management can understand this, anyone can.

In bigger news there is no “priesthood” in Christianity.
