There are several orgs that use the Methodist church within their name in an effort to drag that denomination even lefter. The lines have been drawn within the UMC and a split is possible....maybe probable. The Orthodox Methodist Church and the Rainbow Methodist Church.
One interesting thing is that the Methodist church has a large part of the denomination in Africa....and the Africans have a large say in the path that the United Methodist Church takes. African Methodists are very Orthodox....Thank You Africa.
I believe this is a common tactic. It happens with Baptists too — westboro and that new outfit Carter and Clinton supported (American Baptist ?). Of course there is PCA and ECO vs PCUSA with the Presbyterians. Shame this can happen — often the folks using the name don’t really want to follow the beliefs of the namesake — deceptive, IMO.
