I always found the KJV easiest for memorization but prefer NIV, NKJV, or ESV for study and reading.
To each his own when it comes to Bible translations.
However, I have no patience for the “cult of King James”; those that believe its the only true Bible.
For reading large passages - say the Book of Romans - I prefer the NLT or the Holman. For closer study, I prefer the NASB. I also like Tyndale’s translation:

while evangelizing to a 20, 30 something pagan/atheist.

Can you imagine the problems for a Chinaman?
Or Hindu or Bantu or Russian, Spaniard, German, or Canadian speaker; eh?
