The problem with Catholics is they no longer believe the word of God to be infallible and inerrant. As your example points out, Catholics question the validity of scripture and it’s interpretation unless directed by someone in the Church. Yet, they fail to see their own inconsistency in realizing that, yes, those in the Catholic Church could be misinterpreting a verse.
Catholics have reduced the word of God down to nothing more that short sermons that should be questioned. What a pity.
Why reading The Bible is wonderful to me.
I can relax, and ‘hear’ THE TRUTH.
I cannot argue with it.
If I disagree, the fault is me, not God.
If I don’t understand, I just do not know God’s perspective yet.
I do not have to defend it.
Anything else (News, people, wife, books, FR posts, ...) requires me to assess, evaluate, argue, comment, qualify, etc.) But not for THE BIBLE!

Because the Early Church Fathers who used Koine Greek were the most likely to understand the holy scriptures correctly.
Presumption that all of the ECFs spoke Greek. As we saw with Paul and John error had crept into the early church.
Because one speaks a language doesn't automatically mean they are exercising proper exegesis.
It is much more likely that a modernist does not understand the Greek than the Early Church Fathers.
