More things you won't hear on Sunday morning...

This day in History, July 4, 1776

Seventeenth of Tammuz

The Seventeenth of Tammuz (Hebrew: שבעה עשר בתמוז‎‎ Shiv'ah Asar b'Tammuz) is a Jewish fast day commemorating the breach of the walls of Jerusalem before the destruction of the Second Temple. It falls on the 17th day of the Hebrew month of Tammuz and marks the beginning of the three-week mourning period leading up to Tisha B'Av. The day also traditionally commemorates the destruction of the two tablets of the Ten Commandments and other historical calamities that befell the Jewish people on the same date.

History

The fast of Tammuz, according to Rabbi Akiva's interpretation, is the fast mentioned in the Book of Zechariah as "the fast of the fourth [month]" (Zechariah 8:19). This refers to Tammuz, which is the fourth month of the Hebrew calendar.

According to the Mishnah (Taanit 4:6), five calamities befell the Jewish people on this day:

1. Moses broke the two tablets of stone on Mount Sinai;
2. The daily tamid offering ceased to be brought;
3. The walls of Jerusalem were breached (proceeding to the destruction of the Temple);
4. Prior to Bar Kokhba's revolt, Roman military leader Apostomus burned a Torah scroll;
5. An idol was erected in the Temple.

Coinciding with Fourth of July

The fast of the 17th of Tammuz coincides with American Independence Day every 10 to 20 years. The most notable of these occurrences was on July 4, 1776 itself.

America is not Babylon .
We know Babylon is in Iraq
The scriptures also tell us where mystery Babylon is (in the desert by the sea )

Rabbi Akiva ?
Isn’t he the very one that encouraged the Jews to follow
Bar Kokhba ? Telling them that he was the Messiah
How many Jewish people died because they followed that lie ?

Wake up and read the scriptures and quit playing around with numbers and dates instead .

(Isaiah 21:1) The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.

(Isaiah 21:2) A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam: besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease.

(Isaiah 21:3) Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.

(Isaiah 21:4) My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear unto me.

(Isaiah 21:5) Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

(Isaiah 21:6) For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

(Isaiah 21:7) And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed:

(Isaiah 21:8) And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:

(Isaiah 21:9) And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.
