Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Meditating Upon The Names and Attributes of God
Yahweh Maccaddeshem (Our God, Who Sanctifies Us)

(Old Testament)

Exodus 31

12 Then the Lord said to Moses, 13 “Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.

14 “‘Observe the Sabbath, because it is holy to you. Anyone who desecrates it is to be put to death; those who do any work on that day must be cut off from their people. 15 For six days work is to be done, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day is to be put to death. 16 The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. 17 It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.’”

18 When the Lord finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the covenant law, the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God.

(End of Scripture Passage)

Yahweh Maccaddeshem (Our God, Who Sanctifies Us)

Exodus 31

The Root Hebrew Word For this Wonderful Name is "M'Koddesh", which means HOLY.

It is also the Root For the Word "Kiddush" (The Blessing Over Wine) and "Kaddish" (The Prayer For The Repose of the Dead). The Institution of the Sabbath is what set the Hebrews APART from other Ancient People. This "Apartness" is a Separation from the others to Consecrate a People For Himself, and Thus Sanctifying them and Making Them "Holy".

12 Then the Lord said to Moses, 13 “Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

My beloved Nana, who taught me how to sew, was a Milliner, a seamstress, and an Interior Decorator. She knew how to make THREE-DIMENSIONAL things, like stuffed animals and hats, as well as slip covers and curtains WITHOUT A PATTERN. (Of course there WAS a pattern, but it was in her head). Because of Polio, which she had contracted when she was a young mother during the Great Depression, she always walked with a walker and heavy steel braces on her legs. My grandfather managed to install an electric motor on her sewing machine because she was unable to keep the treadle going with her feet.

Nana taught me her secrets when I was in 7th-8th grade. My Middle School was near her house, so I would walk there after school and do "Eldercare" and light housekeeping until my Aunt got home from work. A lot of the sewing had to be done by hand because Nana was a perfectionist. The sewing machine was taboo for such items as intricate collars, sleeves, tight turns that needed to be turned inside-out, closing openings, buttons, and, of course, HEMS. A machine-sewn hem was as close to a "mortal sewing sin" as you could get. And if the hand sewing showed through or was uneven, you had to rip it out and do it again. Nana said: "Rippin' and Sewin" keeps a body goin", and sometimes I felt like I did more "rippin'" than "sewin'".

One Friday, I had a particularly large amount of "rippin" to do, plus a lot of homework, and a piano lesson on Saturday (for which I had NOT practiced!), so I suggested I take the project home and do my "rippin and sewin" on Sunday. Nana looked at me in horror and said (now this is NOT Christian Doctrine!):

"When you get to heaven, you're gonna have to rip out every stitch you sewed on a Sunday WITH YOUR NOSE!"

I never did feel comfortable sewing on Sunday after that!

Now I'm sure Nana didn't actually believe that, but it showed that she had a reverence for that one day a week that is unlike all the others. "Remembering the Sabbath and Keeping it Holy" is not supposed to usher in a whole NEW set of rules and regulations. Jesus said that "The Sabbath was made for Man" not the other way around. It is God Who makes us holy, not the other way around, either. The Sabbath is a GIFT from God, not our gift to Him. He is the God Who Sanctifies Us.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

God Bless America!

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

- ND the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.
14 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

15 Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.

16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

18 And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

I love your stories, LTOS. They are always a delight.

Maybe it’s because I don’t have much recollection of my childhood, or that there are not a lot delightful stories to remember.

In any case, your memories are sweet and I appreciate that you take the time to share them with us.
