Exo 3

1. And Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock far away into the desert, and came to the mountain of God, to Horeb:
2. And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed:
3. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt:
4. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses; And he said, Here am I:

You know how it is, "what is seen cannot be unseen". Moses decided it was a good idea to investigate, to get to the truth of the matter.

I got to thinking about this verse...

Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

... and wondered, how many others saw this bush? Maybe noone, or maybe dozens. Maybe a lot over many years. If there were others, maybe they all fled the scene, or perhaps were minded to turn a profit by turning it into a tourist trap. We know the story of Moses because there is a story to tell.

This reminds me of the commentaries about the Jews (or rather, Israel) being the only nation who wanted the Torah. They whole-heartedly accepted the proposal. Israel was the nation who said "Yes" to the Torah.

There's a sweet mathematical word play in the idea, as

Israel (ישראל) + "yes" (כן) = Torah (תורה)

541 + 70 = 611

As if the existence of the Torah itself is predicated upon Israel saying "Yes!". As if Israel saved the entire world by existing, existing to say "Yes"..

Like they say when soul mates marry, "They are so perfect for each other," or "It was meant to be", or "It's a match made in heaven."

Makes sense. Same soul. Of course they match. You can't pry them apart because they are one.
