You are denying Scripture is literal, I am not.
You need to stop misrepresenting what other FReepers post.

I will tell you what is wrong with these folks. Unregenerate man CANNOT understand spiritual truth. People involved in false religions, dont understand spiritual truth either. 1st Corinthians 1:18. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. It's the SAME reason some of Jesus' hangers-on quit following Him when He preached about eating His flesh and drinking His blood. Those that took Him literally ("How can he give us his flesh to eat?", they asked), left. But those who hung around and waited for Him to open their eyes to the truth of the lesson, were saved.

Isn't it interesting that out of the John 6 passage, they insist and demand that verses 53-56 be taken literally and that it's real flesh and blood that must be eaten? But in verses 35, 51, and 58 where He calls Himself the Bread as in *I AM the bread*, they don't go around insisting that Jesus was made out of bread dough or wheat flour. They selectively choose what is literal and what is figurative on a word by word within on passage. Didn't Jesus also say that whoever ate His flesh and drank His blood would never die? That they would never hunger or thirst again? They seem to be able to understand the spiritual meaning there and not the literal.

They evade answering that as well.

Until it comes to finding some sort of justification for their unscriptural practice of eating human flesh and drinking blood.
Then suddenly they are Bible literalists that put the King James only crowd to shame.

If that’s what you see, then that’s what you “see,” FatherofFive.
That’s, I’m sure, why Metmom posted “the flesh profiteth nothing” scripture. Some can only see the fleshly/physical in the text and, therefore, in the words of Jesus. That is His point in the statement.
I can’t see where she (Metmom) posted that all text is only figurative, though, and I lean towards there almost always being a spiritual (figurative) application to be found under the physical/literal. You can rightly accuse me of that!
Do you see the trees in Genesis’ creation account as literal or figurative? Or both?
(Metmom, correct me if my understanding of your intention is wrong.)

If thats what you see, then thats what you see, FatherofFive. What I see are the clear words of Scripture.
Jesus said to them, "Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you." John 6:53
What part of this Scripture do you not understand?

“What part of this Scripture do you not understand?”
I don’t understand how it can be taken literally when it would break God’s commandment to not consume blood. The very thing you keep dodging.
To: FatherofFive
Does this help at all...
“Eze 3:1 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel.”
Do you take it literally?
To: boatbums
Didn't Jesus also say that whoever ate His flesh and drank His blood would never die? That they would never hunger or thirst again? They seem to be able to understand the spiritual meaning there and not the literal. So when Christ said you would never die after eating his flesh, He was lying? it wasn't literal?

The Bible is a package deal, FoF, and the types carry over to the New Testament.
We’re instructed to learn (ingest) it. All of it.

Matthew 23: 8-10 But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ. Literal or figurative?

Because the RCC says so. Thats why.
To: Iscool
That's why Jesus never said he turned bread into meat because it was bread...It never changed...Correct, sort of. Christ did not turn bread into meat. He turned it into His Body. Bread changed into His Body
That is what 'This is My Body' means
