All who are servants of Christ are saints.

1 Corinthians 1:2 “To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours.”

“Unbroken string” ?! 2 popes? With 2 in between? No mention of Pius XII, a holy man who saved thousands of Jews and during WWII! What about Benedict XV, isn’t his cause opened? Throughout history saints are made in uneven bunches because, yes you are right, the living pope must select not only by “miracles” but what benefits the Church at that time. The author of this article is very short sighted.
