I would urge all to do two things, donate to FR and pray for Jim, his family and his staff.

These are troubling times folks.

Children’s adult units don’t want to be parents, they want to be their kid’s bff.

Not the ones who were homeschooled and raised as Christians.

I have only spanked my sons a few times in their lives.

We used the 1-2-3 method. The book 1-2-3 says when you get to 3, they get a time out. My wife went in that direction.

I went with if I get to 3 you get your ass paddled. I altered the cadence every time, to keep them on their toes.

Guess who’s orders get followed and who’s get ignored.

“Yes there are absolutes, and yes, spanking your sons and daughters is OK”

Easy call for our boys. Either spank them or drug them...we chose spanking. Obviously no regrets from us, nor the kids, for that matter.

Using Old Testament verses to justify beating your kids with rods is disgusting and disgraceful. My parents beat the hell out of me every Sunday after church. They had just been told about their sins and decided to whack the biggest sinner in the family, the five year old, with a belt. I never touched my kids and they all grown and successful.

Using Old Testament verses as morality keys, why don’t you sacrifice your daughters like Jephthah did?

The rod teaches actions have consequences. But, over use of the rod ends in contempt. The dodgy itself is not the answer, it also needs a carrot. The carrot must be real. False promises, are nothing but hot air and create rage. No consequences leads no concern for actions. Thus if someone does get hurt who cares? Result victims.

There is a pretty large chasm between loving correction and gratuitously beating your child.

I never hit my sons on the ass more than three times at a single administration and never with anything other than the palm of my hand. It was a reminder to them of just who was in charge, and that it wasn’t them.

That your parents thought it appropriate to exceeded what would be necessary to ensure your compliance with their orders, goes back to the minister IMHO. It was incumbent on him to give context and administration guidance while quoting scripture.

I started when my babies (boys, boys, boys) started flipping over when I was changing diapers. I told them to hold still, and if they didn't they got a smack on the bare butt. I always kept my promises with them, and if I promised a punishment it was delivered, whether I was in the mood or not. A promise is a promise. Empty/inconsistent promises weren't made. Can't deliver? Don't promise/threaten. I never punished with bed. I always wanted them to be glad to go to bed and rest, and made bedtime calm, loving, and enjoyable. By they time they were 10, their spanking days were pretty much over, because they TRUSTED ME TO DELIVER PUNISHMENT IF NEEDED. They knew the consequences for disobedience, and they simply didn't go there, because the punishment was painful enough to make breaking the rule NOT WORTH IT. If I could give parents a 2-word admonition, it would be, BE CONSISTENT.

Three upright, patriotic, hardworking men now raise my grandchildren just as firmly. Thank You, Lord, for giving me the wisdom I needed for the task!!

Pastor, you know me, my dad, and my kids, comparing my kids to your liberal sisters is all the proof any sane person would need.

I thank God we listened to your sermons and not your sisters liberal bull dung.
