Pope Francis Denies the Existence of Hell
Rorate Caeli | 03-29-2018

Posted on 03/29/2018 7:40:27 AM PDT by NRx

[Scalfari:] Your Holiness, in our previous meeting you told me that our species will disappear in a certain moment and that God, still out of his creative force, will create new species. You have never spoken to me about the souls who died in sin and will go to hell to suffer it for eternity. You have however spoken to me of good souls, admitted to the contemplation of God. But what about bad souls? Where are they punished?

[Francis:] "They are not punished, those who repent obtain the forgiveness of God and enter the rank of souls who contemplate him, but those who do not repent and cannot therefore be forgiven disappear. There is no hell, there is the disappearance of sinful souls."

Catholics meanwhile were discouraged from reading Scripture.

"Discouraged" by whom? Officially? Informally? Where's the documentation?

Not required to read it without the direct supervision of a priest.

"Not required to read it" is not the same thing as "discouraged from reading it".

Yet, Roman Catholics cannot agree on how many times the pope has exercised this “authority”.

Protestants can't agree on which of Jesus' teachings apply to them. You'll forgive me if I think that's a much bigger deal.

All of Jesus teachings apply to them, and us. This is not a multiple choice question religion.

I am NOT Catholic, however, to deny ‘HELL EXISTS’ is to deny the teachings of the gospel in any faith. That was the lie of the SADUCCEES. That is heresy, imho.

Only a pope like Bergoglio could so “mess” up the Triduum, on purpose.

I figured I would try to start with a universal constant, outside of religion, that everyone could agree upon. Probly already on shaky ground.

No, this is not a denial. This is what the Vatican does every time this Pope finds his foot in his mouth. They issue a non-denial denial. “Well he may not have been quoted accurately. People should not assume this is true... blah blah blah.” If the man didn’t say it, the Vatican press office would have just come out and said so point blank.

3 degrees north. Not encouraging is the same as discouraging. What are we talking about? Until Pius XIII the Bible was read only during mass. Catholic parents did not read the Bible to their children. The laity were not considered adequately trained to understand scripture.
Today the Bible is discussed openly at Catholic Bible study groups.
Francis, for his part, seems to be drawing inspiration from another source. His position on Hell is certainly a questionable Bible interpretation. Wailing and teeth gnashing seem to be something other than ceasing to exist.

“If you have any charity in your heart, pray for this disastrous pope to be deposed.”

My prayers include your wish. The Catholic Church doesn’t need the repeated black eyes this fool gives it. It’s time to be watching for the color of the smoke coming from a certain chimney.

LOL....you're pope is saying there isn't a Hell.

And we've seen the unanimity of belief among Roman Catholics here on FR. /sarc

Pius XIII?

Not encouraging is the same as discouraging.

Not at all.

His position on Hell is certainly a questionable Bible interpretation.

There, we agree. Although his "position on Hell" will probably be different tomorrow.

LOL....you're pope is saying there isn't a Hell.

If he is saying that, he's wrong. Easy enough.

What is he basing his belief on? Scripture or "Tradition"? We've seen how Roman Catholic "Tradition" has evolved over the years. Perhaps he's introducing something new for Roman Catholicism.

This kind of nonsense is why Christianity rejects the Roman Catholic claim that "Tradition" is equal to Scripture.
