Started very long time ago. In the early Seventies I was involved in a case where a newborn had severe opening down his spine. Spina Bifida. The neurosurgeon talked parents into withholding food and water. The hospital refused to allow it, but our local hospital accepted baby and the plan to withhold.

Some of us called the authorities, and got a court order to feed and hydrate, but by time got it the baby died.

Neurosurgeon was sanctioned. Hate mail flooded in accusing us of being busy bodies. Twenty years later neurosurgeon bragged that he had just been ahead of his time and had become commonplace. The powerful never stop unless we fight.
