It appears that Bill Donahue of the Catholic League has actually read the report. It’s not 300 priests. Included are the usual deacons and choir masters and other employees of the Church. Many of them are dead and so can’t speak up for themselves - because the accusations go back to WWII!
This is not to say there isn’t a problem. But, as usual, the media isn’t doing its homework because it is not in their interest to do their homework.

How many is enough. How many homo rapists are OK per diocese? Why were they not turned over to the police? Why were they moved around?
If we were talking about 4 in a state, I imagine that might fall into “normal distribution.” If we were talking about a few arrests over 40 years, that could be explained away.
These people were monsters. And they were protected by an organized conspiracy.

The PA investigation was supposed to include all religious faiths and also include public schools, and anywhere else that there’s a high rate of sex assaults. When the report came out the only organization that was cited was the Catholic Church. That’s why Bill Dohohue has been raising hell about it. He claims the DA wanted tbe Catholic Church for the shock value and let other faith organizations and public schools and colleges skate.
