Traditionalists fear hierarchy will use epidemic scare to kill Latin Mass
ROME (ChurchMilitant.com) - The former archbishop of Milan has dismissed the idea that divine punishment for human sin could be a factor behind the coronavirus epidemic, which has spooked churches into shutting their doors in the dioceses of Northern Italy.
"Divine punishment does not exist. It is an incorrect view of Christianity," Cdl. Angelo Scola told La Repubblica, when asked if Christianity supported the vision of a divine punishment behind the coronavirus.
"Of course, God knows and predicts events but does not determine them," Scola told the leftwing Italian newspaper in an interview Thursday.
The prelate, once considered a runner-up for papal office, cites verses from Luke's gospel in defense of his claim:
When asked if the 18 people who died under the collapse of the tower of Siloam had particularly sinned, Jesus dismisses the question. "Do you suppose this proves that they were more sinful than all the other people living in Jerusalem? No, I say to you, they were no more guilty than all the inhabitants of Jerusalem."
However, quoting only the first part of the text from Luke 13:4-5, Scola leaves out Jesus' stinging warning: "No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."

Tell that to Sodom and Gomorrah.
Still waiting to hear what is wrong with Pope Che
Of course divine punishment for human sin exists and was fully met.
It was fully exhausted 2000 years ago on the body of God’s Son Jesus Christ. There, therefore, remains no more divine punishment for sin, or God would be guilty of double jeopardy.
God isn’t angry at man. He is madly in love with man and wants man to receive his Son as their atonement.
The only thing left for man to do is receive Jesus. Jesus has done everything else.
Some of it may be, some of it might not be. Not all accidents and illnesses are direct punishments, but one can’t say that none of them are, or that it never happens to be.
Of course it exists, otherwise why have religion/Christianity? (I did not say that quite right)
And Ananias and Sapphira.
“Still waiting to hear what is wrong with Pope Che”
That’s a good thought. The Marxist/Globalist/Social Engineer who has no interest in the saving of souls is probably still sick.
“I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins”.
Ignorance gone to seed...
The fool says in his heart There is no God. Psalm 14:1
See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no God with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. Deut 32:49
Wouldn't it necessarily follow from that that God likewise never intercedes in the physical world to the benefit of human beings?
So prayer doesn't help?
Regards,
tell that to the egyptians!
While I generally agree with your statement of God’s love and offer for salvation, you ignore those whom has rejected it. Also the scriptures are very clear when it says “as a man does, so shall be real” and many other passages which warns against an evil lifestyle will incur Divine punishment.
As someone who once served Scola coffee during a seminary visitation, there is a spin that can be put on his words that will eventually redeem them, but without the full context they are not necessarily helpful. They may even be confusing.
God does not force us to sin, but when we sin, there are consequences that follow and we cannot blame those consequences on God and we cannot expect God to avert all these consequences, especially when we refuse to alter our behaviour and attempt to repair what is done.
As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fools bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;
And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!
Mercy now, justice soon. Come Lord Jesus!

If it keeps his mouth shut, I would say that it is providential, and certainly never call it wrong.
This person has never read the books of Isaiah and Jeremiah.
Noah & the people of Babel might disagree with Scola.
The Good Book says that time and chance happeneth to us all, but I suspect that like everything else, it’s a mixture of both, with more chance than anything. My years of experience tends to indicate that God doesn’t tilt the scales of justice much in this life. We are supposed to make of it what we will, and trust in his Wisdom and Justice after our brief time here.
Could a person possibly use better wording saying while alive there is devine discipline that points the non-believers to the Lord Jesus Christ, 1 Corinthians 5:5. While the believer would receive devine discipline in attempts to correct sinful behavior and to put the believer back on track, Hebrews 12:10, 2 Corinthians 12:7
Devine punishment takes place upon death and ultimately at the great white throne judgement, Revelation 20:13-14
I know he has only one lung.
