BREAKING: Vatican Dismisses Father Frank Pavone From Priesthood
National Catholic Register ^ | December 18, 2022 | Joe Bukuras

Posted on 12/18/2022 10:47:29 AM PST by Morgana

Father Frank Pavone, a well-known pro-life activist and national director of the organization Priests for Life, has been dismissed from the clerical state for “blasphemous communications on social media” and “persistent disobedience of the lawful instructions of his diocesan bishop,” CNA has learned.

In a Dec. 13 letter to U.S. bishops obtained by CNA and confirmed by multiple sources as authentic, Archbishop Christophe Pierre, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, wrote that the Prefect of the Dicastery for the Clergy issued the decision on Nov. 9, adding that there was “no possibility of appeal.”

“Father Pavone was given ample opportunity to defend himself in the canonical proceedings, and he was also given multiple opportunities to submit himself to the authority of his diocesan bishop,” explains a separate statement attached to Archbishop Pierre’s letter. “It was determined that Father Pavone had no reasonable justification for his actions.”

Pavone, however, told CNA Saturday that he had not been notified about the Vatican's judgment.

The communication from Archbishop Pierre does not specify the actions that led to Pavone’s dismissal or name the bishop he disobeyed.

The statement refers to Pavone as “Mr. Pavone” and calls him “a lay person,” underscoring the dramatic and immediate nature of the Vatican’s action.

“Since Priests for Life, Inc. is not a Catholic organization, Mr. Pavone's continuing role in it as a lay person would be entirely up to the leadership of that organization,” the statement says.

Pavone is still saying Masses, including one streamed online Saturday. The Priests for Life website states that Pavone “is a Catholic priest in good standing, and exercises his ministry in full communion with the Catholic Church.”

In an email to CNA on Saturday, Pavone said that he was not aware of the Vatican’s action.

not Catholic, no sure how it works, but the good Cahotlics needs to completely remove the faggots, communists and atheists from the leadership.

Many of us have been trying to do just that but it has been an uphill battle for the last 20 years.

How it works is exactly part of the problem. We're a starkly hierarchical Church. A bishop's power over his priests is almost absolute...and if he's a liberal, you can only imagine what damage he can inflict. Traditional parishes form, grow patiently and slowly, and start to really catch on...and then get squashed like a bug.

For a while, that hierarchy was working in our favor. Benedict being elected was a refreshing shock, and it looked like we were on the cusp of a real Renaissance. But then...

Man I can't figure out what happened from there. My head's still spinning over all of it. The resignation, the election and governance of Bergoglio.

The one bright spot is that time is on our side. The committed young people still in the Church are very traditional...they fill parishes with young families while the aging 60s liberal retreads are presiding over geriatric, dying communities. If we can hold out against those orcs, things will get better.

If.

Thank you for the insight! So what really happened with Benedict? He’s only the 2nd Pope in history to resign, correct? Clearly it wasn’t his health as he’ll still with us all these years later. I’ve never been able to figure his resignation out.

Go read the writings of the great martyrs and bishops before A.D. 300 and see what they said about heretical communities following their own teachings instead of what was preached everywhere since the beginning.

And then come back and talk to me about who is heading for the lake of fire.

1) forced out by homos

2) lost faith in Christianity personally, but sees that Christian based right and wrong is a necessity for the world

Me neither. Almost every Catholic I know is still scratching their heads over it.

Ratzinger was known as an arch-conservative, and prior to his election a bunch of traditional priests I talked to said there was *no way* he would ever be elected because of that. When his name was announced from the loggia, traditionalists like me just sat there with our mouths open. For Catholic nerds like us, it was an upset as big as Trump 2016. And some great stuff came of it. He handed down some great legislation like freeing up the traditional Mass and sacraments, bringing a whole bunch of disaffected conservative Anglicans into the Catholic fold, and taking on the liberal errors of the age.

So why then give that all up, and let a guy like Bergoglio take over? Boy, I have no idea.

From what I gather, Benedict was a good and holy man, but as an academic, he was unused to the backstabbing, politics and snakes of the Vatican. Before he resigned he was already talking about "so much filth" in the Church, and saying "pray for me, that I do not flee the wolves" (!!!) I wonder if he experienced things that just really disgusted him so much that he felt he was just not up to the task of solving. And if you look at the news stories during and since, you get an inkling of what he probably meant.

I believe only the second to resign, yes.

I said "unused to the politics of the Vatican"....just wanted to clarify that Benedict was JPII's right hand man, so he wasn't completely unused to it of course.

But maybe something sinister had already started to creep in to the Vatican, worse than it was before. Certainly we know Benedict didn't want the job and prayed not to be elected.

Appreciate all the info. I’ve always had a lot of respect for the church and hope it can work its way out from underneath all that ails it. It appears that a ‘revolution’ of sorts would be very difficult within the structural dynamic of the church. As the woke madness continues the church will have to make some serious choices.

No problem. Yeah, we are not set up for revolution. When times have been bad, saints have been raised up quietly and out of the way, and they set things in motion that eventually corrected the ship over time.

Serious choices indeed!

Thanks for the good conversation.

“Father Frank Pavone was one of Terri Schindler Schiavo’s greatest defenders.”

Father Pavone was in the room with Terri at the end, comforting her as much as he could, and telling her there were so many people who loved her.

BINGO, 43.

That’s the ticket. Until a REAL CATHOLIC Pope is elected, just brush past the verbiage and hang on to Church Dogma.

Merry Chirstmas to all...and to all a Goodnight.
