Over 7,000 churches have left the United Methodist Church amid homosexuality schism: More than 5,000 churches have disaffiliated in 2023

My church disaffiliated, along with 117 other UMC churches (roughly 20%) in Florida.

We are now affiliated with the Global Methodist Church where NO homosexual clergy or unions will be recognized.

AND, Bishops can be fired! They cannot be fired in the UMC, which is how the homosexuals gained power in the church.

Were it not for the AFRican UMC churches voting it down, homosexual clergy and unions would have been “officially” recognized by the UMC — the American bishops were in favor of that policy.

It will be interesting to see how many more Florida UMC churches disaffiliate in the coming years.

Churches supply important guidelines in free cultures. Watch ‘the youths’ with their flash thefts if you have any doubts ...

Liberal ‘elties’ feel everyone should ‘work out their own ethics’ as if folks with IQ’s in 90 to 105 range have nothing better to do than sit around discussing ethics.

Well, in view of the fact that Satan is the guiding philosophical inspiration/force for the LIEberal/Socialist/Marxist/Fascist/Communist/”Progressive” Democrat cult that is working 24/7 to destroy America, you are ABSOFREEPINGLUTEY CORRECT!

HST, the aforementioned EVIL cult is using EVERY factor they can conjure up to undermine, divide and, ultimately, destroy the USA!

This “LBGTQXYZ+” crap is but one “tool” in their “woke” tool kit. As you know, there are many others!

WE MUST RE-ELECT DONALD J. TRUMP IN NOVEMBER, 2024 IF WE MEAN TO STOP THEM!

This turmoil has been going on since we started a new century, or about 2,000.

My Mother in Law died in her late 80’s in 2004. She had been a lifelong Methodist and as were her past relatives and those still alive.

Her last pastor/preacher had a gay live in, and the pastor was not really interested doing anything positive for current members and the church.

The church began to lose long standing members. My MIL stopped attending her Methodist church and was invited to attend the local Baptist church. She did that for about a year and passed just before her 90th birthday.

She had her will changed with some very specifics of not having her funeral in the Methodist church and having it at the nearby funeral home. She left 1/4 of her estate to the local Baptist church. The rest was divided up among her family members still alive.

After her funeral, the local Methodist Church women held a dinner honoring her at the Methodist Church. The minister
was out of town.

When the members at the church were told why her funeral was at the funeral home with the local Baptist Minister, many told my wife or her brothers that they were quitting the church. Many members never came back.

In less than a year, her former church closed its doors as a church. A year later it was bought at a bargain sale by the local Historical Society.

They have. The new GMC (Global Methodist Conference) that the Methodist churches are join as they leave the old UMC (United Methodist Conference) doesn't support abortion or homosexuality.

My understanding was most of the US members were against the changes. There were more churches with smaller, declining membership that were for it. I believe the UMC will survive on the exit payments, old member donations, and real estate sales for a while, but then decline into irrelevancy.

To those of you who's Methodist churches left the hedonist UMC, well done!

Now please don't stop there. Make this your church defining moment of never again. Make John Wesley's holiness movement from the 18th century your 21st century mantra. This could be a point in history that ushers in another Great Awakening.

The whole gay marriage, gay clergy, lbgtq... agenda has never been about inclusion, it’s always been about greed & destruction. If those people and their supporters were honest and sincere about their stated goals (diversity, inclusion, equity), they would have founded their own churches and denominations. Their goals are pretty simple: gain access to the money, distribute the funds to the left’s organizations (they don’t have a clue about creating wealth, only looting the wealth others have created), and destroying the church as purveyors of morals, ethics, etc. These are not righteous people, they are odious and destructive.

OK, can someone help me out? Please? After three long articles read on this I still can’t figure out who are the “breakaway” congregations.

Are the breakaways the “Fruity Men and the Lezz-be-Friends” tribe?

And are the “We’re stickin’ with the Bible” folks still the mainstream church?

About how many congregations are on each side?

And do the breakaways have a new name? (You know, like the “NOT the Episcopal Church” group.)

Thanks

“The fun part starts when it turns out most gays aren’t really that interested in attending church... and those churches that didn’t leave fall apart.”

The United Methodist Church has made the economic cost of disaffiliating very high. The congregations leaving are having to buy their buildings and other property as well as pay large cash sums to the UMC. The congregations leaving are willing to pay the price for independence.

There have been many studies indicating conservatives tithe more frequently than liberals and give to charities at significantly higher levels than liberals at the same income.

In coming years the liberal churches will miss the dollars of the conservatives they drove out of the church. In my town the large downtown UMC has lost half its membership in the last 5 years, has sold off lots and buildings the church owned adjacent to the sanctuary in order to stay afloat, and is constantly begging its remaining liberal membership to give. I was shown its most recent fundraising email which stated less than 20% of the congregation is currently supporting the church with monetary gifts. Apparently the 80% of the remaining liberal membership doesn’t feel a need to support the church with its gifts and tithes.

Membership in the United Methodist Church in the United States peaked in the 1960’s at 11 million. Today the UMC claims 5.7 million in the United States and that number continues to decline.

The small Methodist church of a relative of mine closed about 5 years ago. Located in a close in suburb of a major city it was unable to attract young and middle age people to sustain the membership as the old members died off. The elderly membership decided finally to close the church when they could no longer afford to maintain the property.

My relative was on the church board and was the congregation’s representative working with the UMC to close the church and transfer the property. He said the church bureaucracy never expressed any concern about the ongoing spiritual health of the members or transitioning them to new congregations. All the church bureaucrats cared about was the value of the real estate and other property the church was giving as well as insuring the departing members paid their monetary pledges for the year before the church closed. Within weeks of the last service the property had been sold to a developer and the church building was bulldozed to construct an apartment complex.

Another example of organized religion being a business first.

“OK, can someone help me out? Please? After three long articles read on this I still can’t figure out who are the “breakaway” congregations.

The United Methodist Church is a global protestant church founded in the 1700’s in England. It spread rapidly in the United States in the 1800’s. In recent decades the church hierarchy and governance has been taken over by liberal members and clergy. These liberal members support changing church doctrine to recognize gay marriage and to allow for gay clergy. Most African Methodist congregations as well as many conservative local churches in the United States strongly opposed changing the church doctrine.

The liberals running the United Methodist Church made it clear they intent to change the church doctrine at an upcoming general conference. As a result many conservative congregations chose to leave. The breakaway Global Methodist Church is made up of individual churches who decide to keep the historic church doctrine and teachings. The liberals who favor gay marriage and much of the left’s social justice agenda are now fully in control of the United Methodist Church and will soon change the church doctrine to agree with their view of God’s will.

That could very well be the long-run outcome.

It will take several years for the UMC/GMC churches to sort themselves out and stabilize their membership.

I do not have a crystal ball and cannot predict the future, but, HST, you are right that the UMC is rich! The Florida Conference is keeping ALL of their real estate holdings.

AFAIK, GMC is not getting any of the Florida UMC real estate; each church is being allowed to keep and get title to its own property.

How the UMC vs the GMC fare in the future will be interesting to watch

I wish Catholics would do the same.

Francis is doing the same thing that evil bishops did in the UMC—pack the church with progressive (apostate) Bishops who voted for apostacy at the General Convention of the UMC.

Catholics will face this situation when Francis kicks it and his college of Cardinals that he has packed with homophiliacs gets to elect a new Pope. The RCC will go literally to hell, and then there will be a massive split.
