There’s that old story about priest who was told by the Emperor Constantine that they needed to come to terms with the gnostics. He knew that a gnostic priest was coming to him for the Eucharist and prayed that he wouldn’t have to give it to him. God obliged and the Gnostic priest died before he got there.
