Please pray for my health. I am having several different issues, and I'm not sure if they are related. Acid reflux, sinus infection/headaches.
Pray that I will be wise in knowing just how to treat this and when/if I should seek medical help.
It is keeping me from getting rest at night.
Sometimes doctors can lead us astray.
Prayers for your health and discernment ❤️
Prayers on the way, pollywog!
My aunt (in her 70’s) had acid reflux bad, from a hiatal hernia. She had no use for doctors, but eventually couldn’t tolerate solid food at all and went in for an operation. They did a great job. No more reflux! So get checked out, sometimes it’s something they can actually fix.
But for years she relied on famotidine for heartburn, and sleeping elevated. Probiotics from dairy sources, IF you have no trouble with dairy. Sinus — my favorite remedy is VapoRub, and of course diligent dental hygiene. Check with the dentist and make sure the sinus trouble isn’t related to a bad tooth or gum disease.
Vitamins. Eat your veggies. Avoid sugar.
Sometimes sinus headache is seasonal, or there’s something in the house (dust, pets) that your body can’t deal with as well as it used to.
Friends of mine swear by videos of psalms and Bible quotes. Very comforting. The Lord doesn’t want you to be sick! Or to worry.
(((pollywog)))
So fear not. Don’t even fear doctors. The Lord’s got your back and His hand is on theirs.
Polly...with the power of Jesus Christ that flows through me in rivers of living water, I command restoration and healing of every cell of your body. I decree that your body aligns with the life giving Word of God and you are completely restored, right now. He sent his Word and healed us, and delivered us from our destruction.
Prayers up. See a medico to get an idea of the issues.
Might be something simple.
Get a good yogurt that lists all species present and that does not have pectin. A good Bulgarian label is great, Then make your own at home—easy to do. Can give you the method but easy to find on line.
Mine is so bad, I permanently lost my voice five years ago. When coupled with asthma, a heart condition, and old age it’s no fun.
The people telling you not to eat at night are onto something. I don’t eat after six and do only water until sunrise. My sleeping has improved. I also got a neck pillow from Lindell and it props me up very well. Good luck. I’ll be praying for you.
See if you can get an RX for hyoscyamine. It has worked on my occasional acid reflux.
Long-term untreated acid reflux can turn into cancer, so I’d recommend you see a gastroenterologist. I had heartburn for 20 years that I treated with Rolaids. After a while, even those didn’t help. I finally found a family doctor that took my complaints seriously and prescribed medication, and also referred me to a specialist. By the time I was finally diagnosed, I had Barrett’s Esophagus, which is a pre-cancer condition. Thankfully, my condition has been stable all these years, but that’s only because I’ve continued taking my medication, and having regularly scheduled broncoscopy procedures. Prayers that you are able to find answers and treatments that work.
I’ll be praying for you, don’t worry.
The main symptoms of acid reflux are:
heartburn – a burning sensation in the middle of your chest
an unpleasant sour taste in your mouth, caused by stomach acid
You may also have:
a cough or hiccups that keep coming back
a hoarse voice
bad breath
bloating and feeling sick
Symptoms are often worse after eating, when lying down and when bending over.
Causes of heartburn and acid reflux
Lots of people get heartburn from time to time. There’s often no obvious reason why. Sometimes it’s caused or made worse by:
certain food and drink – such as coffee, tomatoes, alcohol, chocolate and fatty or spicy foods
being overweight
smoking
pregnancy - find out more about indigestion and heartburn in pregnancy
stress and anxiety
an increase in some types of hormones, such as progesterone and oestrogen
some medicines, such as anti-inflammatory painkillers (like ibuprofen)
a hiatus hernia – when part of your stomach moves up into your chest
a stomach ulcer
a bacterial infection in your stomach
Do not eat anything while you are laying down
How ease acid reflux yourself
Simple lifestyle changes can help stop or reduce heartburn.
Do
eat smaller, more frequent meals
try to lose weight if you’re overweight
try to find ways to relax
Don’t
do not have food or drink that triggers your symptoms
do not eat within 3 or 4 hours before bed
do not wear clothes that are tight around your waist
do not smoke
do not drink too much alcohol
do not stop taking any prescribed medicine without speaking to a doctor first
You may find that using wood, bricks or books to raise the head of your bed by around 10 to 20cm, so your chest and head are above your waist, helps relieve symptoms. This can help stop stomach acid travelling up towards your throat.
But do not try to achieve the same effect by using additional pillows, as this can increase pressure on your belly and make your symptoms worse.
A pharmacist can help with heartburn and acid reflux
Speak to a pharmacist for advice if you keep getting heartburn.
They may recommend medicines called antacids or alginates that can help ease your symptoms.
It’s best to take these with food or soon after eating, as this is when you’re most likely to get heartburn. They may also work for longer if taken with food.
Although antacids and alginates help symptoms in the short term, they will not cure the problem and should not be taken regularly for long periods.
If you’re pregnant, a pharmacist can advise you about medicines you can take.
See a GP if:
lifestyle changes and pharmacy medicines are not helping your heartburn
you have heartburn most days
you also have other symptoms, like food getting stuck in your throat, frequently being sick, or losing weight for no reason
A GP can provide alternative or stronger treatments and help rule out any more serious causes of your symptoms.
If at any time you feel your symptoms are getting worse, contact a GP, go to 111.nhs.uk or call 111.
Treatment for heartburn and acid reflux from a GP
If you have acid reflux, a GP may prescribe a medicine called a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces how much acid your stomach makes.
PPIs include:
omeprazole
lansoprazole
You’ll usually need to take this type of medicine for 4 or 8 weeks, depending on how serious your acid reflux is.
Go back to the GP if your symptoms return after stopping your medicine. You may need a long-term prescription.
check out the symptoms of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR):

a good ENT can tell almost instantly if this is your issue
also, if you truly have a bacterial sinus infection, you MUST take a course of antibiotics to knock out the infection ...
Prayers for you dear polly
My doctor told me my acid reflux was caused by pregnancies, and the birth process. The flap that protects the stomach acid from splashing up into the esophagus was damaged.
Prayers from our house to yours.
wow Buttons12~ Great info! thanks
“Check with the dentist and make sure the sinus trouble isn’t related to a bad tooth or gum disease.”
My sister suffered for years with brutal sinus infections — the normal issues, going as far as nausea. Then she had some extreme dental work done, concentrating on her gums. That was maybe 8 years ago and she hasn’t had one sinus infection since.
If the acid reflux is chronic and sometimes severe, you might need an upper endoscopy. Barrett’s Esophagus is a precancerous condition that is immediately visible to the doctor. There are other possibilities such as ulcer or bacterial infection.
In the meantime, elevate your head with pillows as you fall asleep and no large meals within three hours of bedtime. A couple of Tums or Rolaids can help too. And stay hydrated.
Good luck!
Great advice. I have two of Mike Lindell’s pillows but not the neck pillow. Going to order that one..
What if you can’t eat yogurt? It makes me gag just to smell it. I wish I could eat it. What probiotic, etc., would be helpful?
Doctors will lead you astray and give you a pill.
Acid Reflux: the gentleman that mentioned probiotic yogurt etc is spot on. You can get drinkable probiotic yogurt. The food advice also works. The key is the food. For me, I avoid tomato based foods (chili, meatloaf, pizza, spaghetti etc).
If you are having acid reflux every night, this will fix it:
BRAT system
B - Banana
R - rice (no spicy sauce)
A- apples, applesauce
T - bread, dry toast (I’ve used butter, it won’t make that much of a difference)
Eat only this for one week. Once your system is stabilized you can eat what you wish but be cognizant if the stomach starts feeling bad again, then back off. Look up BRAT for more info.
This happened to me eight years ago. I tried everything (apple cider, probiotics, etc.) It wasn’t working. I was sleeping sitting up to keep from burping acid for months. A friend told me about BRAT. That worked. It took time to allow my stomach to heal and become healthy but once it did, I can eat whatever IN MODERATION. Ex. I made chili this week. I was able to eat it once a day for 5 days. On the second day I avoided eating a second meal of fatty food like breaded fish and a bucket of tartar sauce knowing it would upset my stomach. An upset stomach is fine but if continued, the acid reflux returns. All in all, use BRAT to stabilize, avoid tomato based foods for a while. No pills are necessary and probiotics are good but not necessary once you get ahead of the problem.
Hubby is younger than me. It hit him at 50 like it did me. After months of stubbornness on his part, he finally conceded and did what I ask. He doesn’t have acid reflux anymore either. And he also only ate 1 serving of chili knowing that eating more would upset the apple cart :).
As for sinus and headaches, pollen could be a factor. I’ve never been allergic to anything. After 50, pollen started giving me headaches and other things. My battle against that hasn’t been effective but I’m still working on it. The only thing I’ve tried are vitamins which I’ve been taking for decades. I refuse to use Flonase etc. Pending on where your headache is located, it means different things. Look it up, it might shed some light. Mine are hypertension.
Wishing you the best
