The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Greetings, friends! Due to technical problems on our old thread with the introduction of the new forum software, I decided to go ahead and create a new thread free of any sequencing issues. Please continue the regular discussion here.

I didn't want to say this on the other thread, but I can't believe nobody complained that we didn't have MARY as a keyword. I mean you aren't giving her the respect and deference she deserves, right?

Hi, I wanted to follow up on your suggestion of posting a weekly Torah portion discussion thread. I did some searching and most of the sites that have something online for this post commentary only, not the actual scripture. But Chabad has an excellent page for this:

Parshah

You can click on the text link in the right column for the first portion, and from there for the full reading.

If you need any HTML help, let me know!

Iowegian, would you say something profound for me, so when I look back at the beginning of these threads in years to come, I'll impress myself.

Please use "JHavard", Thanks (^g^) JH

I prefer churches that preach and teach against abortion and don't cover up for child molesters. It's not an either/or thing, you know.

Iowegian,
Since this is a new-ish sort of thread, it would be very exciting if you could say something that wasn't aimed at offending Roman Catholics either directly or indirectly.

Hey Jim, saw you talking about the bread and wine (grapejuice) on the "old" thread...last week was the first time I've ever did the bread and wine thing...it was pretty awesome to think that I was performing a ceremony that's been handed down for thousands of years and to think of the link back to Christ. Truly moving. Did you feel that way for you first one?

Hi history_matters (I'm sure you'll be abbreviated to "hm" soon! ;o), thanks for dropping by.

This thread has been ongoing for over a year, and many of the regulars have been here for at least several months. So, we've gotten to know each other pretty well. We have some pretty intense debate here at times. We do try to keep it from getting personal, though, unlike certain other unnamed threads. We have such a diverse group that anyone's beliefs are fair game for being challenged at one point or another. Many of the topics have been gone over a number of times, so a comment like Iowegian's is more than just an aside, but is referring back to prior debate. Each of us here is sure he is right, so it does get interesting! But despite our differences and squabbles, we've gotten to be good friends. If you stick around, you'll meet some great people from both the Catholic and non-Catholic sides. Even if they do disagree with you vehemently on doctrine.

Welcome!

Nah, she doesn't need a keyword or a forum. She's got her Son's ear -- and man, he turned water into wine when she pointed out the party was about to go bust.....

No, sorry to say, I was more consumed with the mechanics of it, and Ginny was so nervous she spilled her wine (Juice).

She had told me, that when she was a child, they thought that if you chewed the host wafer, blood would run out of the corners of your mouth. hehehe

Did you use real wine in your service as they used to?

Oops, let me correct that. Each of us here is sure he is right, except for BigMack. Poor fella is plagued with self-doubt. If it weren't for Becky telling him what to wear, he wouldn't even be able to get dressed in the morning. ;o)

Yes, it was real in teeny weeny little glasses I didn't even know existed... I'm not sure if there was a grape juice option or not.

I take it, then, that your own church teaches that abortion is not okay?

That's right, and if a Pastor gets involved in sexual sin, HE is not sent off to find new victims elsewhere. He is defrocked. This method works, something that all churches should try.

I do to. It took a little "test-driving" for me to get the hang of it, but I think it is much more user-friendly.
