Got my new T1 internet connection at work. Pages load almost instantaneously (I've seen it up to 67Kbs, or about five times faster than our old ISDN, and 12-14 times faster than dialup). Its a beautiful day! :o)

I live in an area which can't recieve DSL, (country hick) and my only real options are dial up or Cable. My cable company, Adelphia, is pushing a product called Powerlink and I was interested. I called the local office and told them I would come in for a demo. The answer was; "oh we don't run it, why don't you just sign on to Powerlink.com and learn for yourself". Powerlink.com is never up and the local office doesn't even use it themselves. Great testimonial. I am still using my barely satisfactory dial up. No, I won't consider sattelite. It is too expensive for my taste.

I know some of the cable companies have had bad problems with their cable modem service. My brother has cable modem access at home, and has been happy with it. In Wisconsin, deregulation is forcing the cable companies to share their lines the same way the phone company does, and you can now get cable modem service through a provider other than the local cable monopoly. Another good alternative is ISDN. Its not as fast as cable, but a good deal faster than dialup, and probably costs around the same as cable service. And its much more available than DSL.
