I am sure that living as a Palestinian in one of the "occupied" areas is no picnic. I am sure that there have been incidents where Israeli forces acted with undue force or acted in a manner which could be harrassing.

I'm sure it was no picnic being a soldier or civilian in Iraq during the Gulf War. I'm sure the families of the terrorists who killed 3000 of our fellow citizens grieve their deaths. Frankly, too bad. I have no sympathy for them. The time for "feeling their pain" has passed. I have no desire for innocent civilians to suffer. But the alternative is to do nothing, and that is unacceptable.

I really think we are in agreement here. I am firmly for Israel doing what it needs to do.

My objection last week was to parties who, as I said, invoke the Bible as a guide to foreign policy. I am not comfortable saying "Israel has a right to the land cause God gave it to 'em." I may believe it is true, but I don't think that's a valid basis for a foreign policy.
