I love to read the posts of some of my favorite freepers no longer here, like drstevej and others. Wonderful!

Refreshing, isn't it?

"I firmly hold that there is a purgatory, and that the souls detained there are helped by the prayers of the faithful. I likewise hold that the saints reigning together with Christ should be honored and invoked, that they offer prayers to God on our behalf, and that their relics should be venerated. I firmly assert that images of Christ, of the Mother of God ever Virgin, and of the other saints should be owned and kept, and that due honor and veneration should be given to them. I affirm that the power of indulgences was left in the keeping of the Church by Christ, and that the use of indulgences is very beneficial to Christians." -- Tridentine Profession of Faith

"This statement alone shows multiple instances of Catholic Theology / tradition that go beyond Scripture and distort the gospel."

Gone, but never forgotten.

As we've learned time and again on these threads, to disagree with Rome is to "practice hate speech."

lol. If only the RCC knew how much it sounded like the socialist doofuses of the democrat party.

Disagreeing with someone is not hate speech.

Slandering someone by accusing them of believing or doing things which they neither believe nor do, however, in an effort to discredit them or make them appear foolish ... what do you call that, if not "hate"?

It certainly isn't love, because Scripture tells us that love rejoices in the truth.

This is my first posting here, and while I think it is in the wrong place, I’ll say what I want to say anyway.

It’s odd that the article assumes that there are those who hate the church for the reasons given. I have struggled not to hate the Catholic Church for decades, for none of those reasons.

I was abused at Catholic elementary school. There was never an apology. To this day, I still feel nautious and ill whenever I enter a Catholic Church. I have a plethora of horror stories, and at no time, have I ever felt sympathy or apology from any Catholic about what happened to me at the age of eight. My mother, being a die-hard Catholic, knew what was going on but could not bring herself to take me away from the school or the church.

I am not looking for sympathy, but I do dislike the Catholic Church’s unwillingness to admit its mistakes. A few years ago, when the molestation scandals broke, I was reminded of my own ordeals, and the church’s reluctance to even admit there was an issue. This is a sad way for an institution to behave, especially when the children are victims and likely to harbor these scars/memories for life.

I don’t hate Catholics, and I try not to hate the church, but it has a long way to go before it can sell me that it is an honest institution.

I could care less what Catholics believe or think, but I do care that they are corrupt and have damanged so many peoples lives in order to protect their own PR. I will not apologize for feeling the way I do either; afterall, no suitable apology has been given to me, and it’s not likely to come either. Despite that, I won’t generalize and group all Catholics in the same category.

Did your mother ever apologize to you?

Hello Judith,

I will answer your question; however, I would first like to know, why are you asking me this quesiton? I ask, because it sounds like a knee-jerk reaction to what I wrote; furthermore, it gets to the heart of why I find it so hard to stop disliking the Catholic Church. Instead of saying, “we’re sorry this happened under our watch”, it’s, “what did you do to provoke this? Well, these things happen, but you can’t blame us.”

So I am asking you now to be honest, and to tell me if you are asking because it is pertinent to something you will say, or if you are just slagging me off here? I firmly believe that the only way to forgive, is to receive an honest, sincere apology.

I ask, because the maternal instinct to protect one’s child is very strong. In no way was my question a knee-jerk reaction.

Answer or not, as you wish. I note that you have just recently joined, please allow me to welcome you to Free Republic.

Alright, So, you are COMPLETELY wrong. We don’t pray to statues, that’s like saying the greek’s prayed to statues. No, they just made statues to represent their patrons. We don’t worship saints, we respect them, and believe they have a special place in Heaven. We DO pray to God, we just ASK saints to pray for us. The pope obviously sins, but we believe that he is better at refraining from it since he has a closer spiritual relation to God. OK, also, we don’t re-crucify Christ... At all. WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS WHERE YOU THINK WE CONJURE THE DEAD? WE ARE NOT NECROMANCERS! IN FACT, THE CATHOLIC RELIGION USED TO KILL PEOPLE IN THE 1700S FOR COMMITTING WITCHCRAFT! And people can be saved once they’re dead, unless, of course, you wish for babies that die young to go to Hell? And we don’t believe that everyone that isn’t Catholic i damned to Hell, we just believe they aren’t seeing the whole part of God. The crusades and Inquisition was done hundreds of years ago, when, I admit, the Catholic church was pretty messed up. And, it’s not the Popes job to involve with war, he doesn’t even have an army. Also, the good act thing means that we should strive to do good, not go around killing people with faith. And where did you get the Pagan thing? Because that is.. Beyond wrong.
