Announcing the Catholic Freeper Locator List
June 14, 2002 | Romulus

Posted on 06/14/2002 8:24:23 AM PDT by Romulus

Yesterday's thread on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Summer Plenary Session. turned up a lot of Catholic FReepers suggesting that it's time for the faithful laity to get more visible and active in pressing for a restoration of right order in the Church. To that end, I've decided to develop and maintain a list of Catholic FReepers, sorted by state, as a resource for future activism. Some of us will wish to collaborate on future projects; others may simply find the list handy for purposes of fellowship. If you want to be on this list, please post your state (or overseas country) on this thread. I'll collate whatever comes in, and Askel5 will post the results on the ConSpiratio web site.

In posting your FR handle and location, you're not volunteering for anything except the chance of being contacted in the future. Whatever activism you then undertake is entirely up to you. For the record, I have no specific plan for this list, nor am I aware of anyone else's. It seems like something that needs to be done, however, and I'll wager the very existence of a good list will generate fruitful ideas.

If you prefer not to post your location, please bump the thread anyway. Thanks!

All Catholic Churches in the world have a crucifix

Since some churches are dispensing the crucifix on the main altar, inquiring minds would like to know, the number of scandals per church with the crucifix missing. After all, if you remove that which is most precious to the Catholic faith...wouldn't that contribute to erratic behaviour? He, Jesus, is not present therefore anything goes, would that be their attitude?

Palm Beach Co. Diocese Florida. Thanks, Romulus and Aske et al. I spend most of my time watching the AmChurch in horror. I imagine I look like Ignatius J. Reilly ("Confederacy of Dunces") did when he was watching a Doris Day movie.

A few years ago, I went back in for a visit and found the crucifix placed in the back of the church over to the side (barely visible unless you looked for it) and it had been replaced by a plain cross over the altar (which doesn't house the Tabernacle anymore) - the front pews - about the first 10 rows - had been ripped out and replaced with chairs that have no kneelers. My heart was broken.

My point exactly! Thank you, american colleen. If you look deeper inside that church, you will probably find upgraded speakers for the electronic instruments that accompany the "Kumbaya" choir. And banners! These "contemporized" churches have banners everywhere. In fact, check out the "banner" (of the Blessed Virgin) just behind the main podium at the bishops conference. What a piece of work!! How inspiring is that?

And .. the music. Some of the contemporary music is beautiful but much of it reminds me of what they sing or perform in the Crystal Cathedral. Is it any wonder catholics are confused, angry, and lost?

I know this is off-topic, but since it's a Catholic thread...any FReepers going to be at the CCLI (Couple to Couple League International) Convention which starts a week from Sunday here in Shawnee OK? I know we have some NFP instructors on FR. I would love to meet anyone who might be going!

You aren't being to picky. You are absolutely right that the tabernacle should be front and center.

You are without votive candles? I'm so sorry. That almost happened here, but in my role as banshee the votive candles have remained in place.

Gee, that could be a real interesting research project.
There is a beautiful crucifix in the Jesuit run church I attend now, no scandals that I know of.
