Church faces calls for complete change

The Catholic faith is, by its own definition, everlasting, but the sexual-abuse scandal in the U.S. church has raised the question of how the American institution will survive.

"Whether the Catholic Church as currently governed and managed can proclaim the Gospel effectively in this milieu is an open question," Scott Appleby, a Notre Dame University professor, recently told the bishops in Dallas.

"Serious attention must be given to the problem of active homosexuals being admitted to the priesthood," said Robert Royal, a Catholic scholar with Catholics for Authentic Reform, which organized amid the current crisis.

It's a thought. Siobhan suggested a catholic blog group. Others felt that our forum group already worked well. Will send you a freepmail regarding a group that Romulus is organizing.

We are in a new investiture crisis. The method by which bishops are chosen will have to be reformed. When it all shakes out years from now, there will be significant input from the local laity before the Pope appoints someone to govern a diocese.

The National nonCatholic Reporter has waxed enthusiastically about the Apostolic Nuncio,Jean Jadot,"who used lay input" before submitting the "list of three" candidates for bishop of a diocese,to Rome.He was Nuncio from 1972 to 1980.Check out the bishops who were appointed during his term.

Amid the scandal, the Vatican's official spokesman said the church should not ordain homosexuals. Traditionalists are calling on the bishops to "purify" the priestly ranks, even as some of the hierarchy are homosexual. Three bishops with such complaints against them resigned in recent months.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. The secret to winning this is getting the dirt, preferably on the homos highest up the ladder. Once it's public, they'll resign. We just need to GET IT!
