Why all the seperatition of late, are we afraid to debate each other any more?

Actually,I think there is a good sola scriptura debate on the "The Relationship of the Church to Israel" thread.They appear to have no problems about expressing their differing viewpoints.

There is some fear from some groups to debate. A certain group was so afraid of debate just recently, they had threads pulled.

On the whole, the Religion forum works fine. I don't see it as a ghetto; FR is much more organized as currently set up.

Well, I'll speak up since its obvious the REAL question here is, "Where has ponyepsresso gone?" Thanks for trying to make it more general so as not to hurt the feelings of those who don't understand everyone's tremendous amount of concern for me. Honestly, it's touching, it really is. I appreciate it.

Well, the truth is I've only really been able to lurk as of late. I try to follow threads when I can, but I've really been trying to catch up on my reading lately; I've FINALLY got started on Richard Foster's book Celebration of Discipline. What a fantastic work. If I knew it was going to be this insightful, I would have bumped to the top of my reading list a long time ago, lol!

So, when I can I will be joining the fray and trying to contribute what I can. I am even toying with posting some of my own writing, we'll see what happens.

So, again, really, thanks for the concern. But, other than that, the religion forum is working great. Fantastic, in fact. Keep up the good work, and keep a look out for me. I'll be seeing ya!

Now for my opinion... Do you know what happens when there is no outlet for a lake?? It dies...Once it is gone a lot of posters will probably be gone too...lots of news forums but not many good religious forums

Protestants do not fear different opinions we are always ready to discuss doctrine...and note on that thread it is not a Calvinist/Arminian division...

Well, as for me, I only spend time on the Religion forum when my availability happens concurrently with a peak in the desire to beat my head against a brick wall.

Thankfully, the frequency of that event lately is more like that of a solar eclipse, than a full moon.

Plus, when (if?) they do line up again, I'm hoping to pick up a copy of Dave Hunt's What Love Is This?, wherein he supposes to debunk the heresies of [hyper-]Calvinism.)

My daddy once told me that you all could always tell who was wrong in a debate - they are the one's that are yelling the loudest. I am absolutely passionate about the fact that far too few Christians are woefully un-taught, or under-taught.

I teach an adult Sunday School class as well as a Monday night college class. I am absolutely amazed at the number of people who come up to me after a month or two and tell me that they have been Christians for "x-number of years" and they have never dealt with the subjects that I teach, and in the depth that I teach them. Someone yesterday described my classes as "AP courses" for Christians.

My question - why aren't they being taught. I lay the blame at the feet of seminaries and the pastors they produce.

Part of why they aren't being taught is because so many churches complete focus is evangelism. Drawing "seekers" into the church. Sermons are "how to" with a very small emphasis on bible. Little or no theology. Get em saved.. and move on to the next one.

And the ones that do teach discipleship teach it on a surface level. For the christian who really wants to discuss and learn deep seated theological principles from the bible... few churches today are the place to accomplish that.

That is what I enjoy about web sites such as this one. The opportunity to listen to others, and to discuss theology with like minded and those that think differently.
