They were not saved before 1830. That is why Mormons are fanatical about doing baptisms and other "Temple Ordinances" for the dead. http://www.utlm.org and http://www.irr.org/mit are great Christian sites for research.

You are right about that being the reason they work so hard to get their dead ancestors, and others babtised, and their temple work done.

All marriages before Smith had the plural marriage prophesy were also considered null, and void until they could redo, or undo it. At that time you could change partners, as my great, great, great, grandmother did. She left her husband to marry Joseph Smith. After he dies she married another guy. She was very faithful to Joseph. She talked the young girls into becoming his wives. This made her know as one of the mothers of Israel. She was the first woman to sew the holy underwear too. She ended up excommunicated from both Mormon church, and the reorganised Mormon church. She had traveled to Utah, and back to live with her sister Emma Smith before leaving the whole thing behind. She, and her son knew more truth than almost anyone. Her son, my great great grandfather was a witness at Joseph Smiths death, and a witness at the trial.
