May 26, 2008 | snippy and samwolf

Posted on 05/26/2008 7:03:26 AM PDT by snippy_about_it

Lord,

Keep our Troops forever in Your care

Give them victory over the enemy...

Grant them a safe and swift return...

Bless those who mourn the lost.

Amen.
.

FReepers from the Foxhole join in prayer
for all those serving their country at this time.

...................................................................................... ...........................................

U.S. Military History, Current Events and Veterans Issues

Where Duty, Honor and Country
are acknowledged, affirmed and commemorated.

Our Mission:

The FReeper Foxhole is dedicated to Veterans of our Nation's military forces and to others who are affected in their relationships with Veterans.

In the FReeper Foxhole, Veterans or their family members should feel free to address their specific circumstances or whatever issues concern them in an atmosphere of peace, understanding, brotherhood and support.

The FReeper Foxhole hopes to share with it's readers an open forum where we can learn about and discuss military history, military news and other topics of concern or interest to our readers be they Veteran's, Current Duty or anyone interested in what we have to offer.

If the Foxhole makes someone appreciate, even a little, what others have sacrificed for us, then it has accomplished one of it's missions.

We hope the Foxhole in some small way helps us to remember and honor those who came before us.

Memorial Day 2008

"Changing the date merely to create three-day weekends has undermined the very meaning of the day. No doubt, this has contributed greatly to the general public's nonchalant observance of Memorial Day." -- VFW 2002 Memorial Day address

Memorial Day used to be a solemn day of mourning, a sacred day of remembrance to honor those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. Businesses closed for the day. Towns held parades honoring the fallen, the parade routes often times ending at a local cemetery, where Memorial Day speeches were given and prayers offered up. People took the time that day to clean and decorate with flowers and flags the graves of those the fell in service to their country.

Unfortunately, when Congress made Memorial day into a mandatory three-day weekend in with the National Holiday Act of 1971 (P.L. 90 - 363), it made it all the easier for us to be distracted from the spirit and meaning of the day.

Well we could’ve just closed the door, but I was concerned she’d wake up disoriented.

If you don’t mind me asking what did it cost and about how many hours to build the Compass Rose?

Costwise, I have not added the receipts up.

Time wise, I don't know hours really. It's been many evenings and weekends for about 5 months to get it "campable". I still need to finish it. Literally even, since the spar varnish still must go on. The fenders are another thing to do.

If you'll notice the ugly utility trailer fenders went camping. I have these to mount, once I figure how:

Thanks for the reply and info. From what I recall on the price on the 4x10 red oak plywood it won’t be cheap. And IT does not sound like it would be a three weekend project-)

Tell the working stiff and the Princess Helper good job for me

Yea! You completed right on target & what a beaut the Rose is!

Poor itty bitty girl rolling out....but she really is styling the barbie band-aids.

Looks like a wonderful time PE & I just have to say what wonderful parents you & your Mrs are.

By the end of the trip the boat had acquired gun ports, a stern gallery and poop deck and a forecastle.

The engineer in you never rests does he???? :)

Thanks for pinging me to this!

I recall seeing something like this for American cars back in the 70s, but it didn’t last for whatever reason.

My first job after my extremely short stint at the University of Science, Music and Culture was at a laundromat and car wash.

LOL.

Hear ye. Hear ye. Let it be known that on this day Samwise of the Shire paid $2.28.9 a gallon for gasoline at the local Speedway.

You got the wrong Sam. SAMWolf is the cohost of the Foxhole. I’m just the hobbit who leaves spitballs all over the place. But “hello” anyway!

If I were a cynic, I’d say prices will soar after the election.
