To: dogbyte12
Well, that's gonna make GOP efforts to regain the Senate that much tougher. Too bad. America is losing a good one.

We won't lose the Texas Senate seat! Look for Henry Bonilla to run -- haven't heard but know he is very popular and very conservative from South Texas and one of my favorites. He is a former TV producer for news so I can't think of a better person.
I would almost move back to Texas to work for his election! That will tell you how much I think of the man. He would win that seat hands down IMO! My guess now is why he was on the dias during the Republican convention with J.C. and Jennifer Dunn. Now that is pure speculation on my part!
His father was civil service who worked at Kelly AFB and has family that also worked there. He is from the San Antonio area and was elected as a Republican in a very heavy RAT district where the dead vote!

Don't you all think you all are going a might overboard and I love Phil Gramm. Have you all never heard of Jim Inhofe or Don Nickles or how about Phil Bennett, or any number of other conservative Republicans on all issues?
To: dogbyte12
Maybe he is going back to take the 3rd, 7th and 9th grade over again. :) Sorry. Couldn't resist. I wish him the best.

You're right. This is a pretty safe Republican seat.
About the best the Democrats could throw at it would be Dan Morales, the former Attorney General of Texas.
However, he is as dirty as Roger Clinton, and may very well be indicted for sending tobacco settlement money to his trial lawyer friends who had almost nothing to do with the case.

The Texas Rumor is that since the President of Texas A&M is retiring at years end, Phil Gramm will be named the new President of the University. He was a professor there before going to Washington. As a Texan, I can only hope the people of this great state will keep that seat in Republican hands, but quite frankly I'm not too sure about that. Let's see who runs -- Texas Monthly has an article in it this month about Henry Cisneros with a photo of him and his 14 year old son on the cover - is that a coincidence or are they trying to revive another scandal-laden democrat politicians career.

Hey, I didn't say the Pubbies would lose this seat. It just went from being a lock to being a bit vulnerable. They'll probably have to expend time and resources that they otherwise would not have had to expend.

Phil Gramm has a PhD in Economics. He's the only member of Congress that has an Economics degree.
Senator Gramm has been the most consistent advocate for reduced federal spending and deficit reduction.
To: dogbyte12
I had a story about Gramm wanting to become president of Texas A & M, I do believe.
His solid conservative voice will be missed in the Senate.

I think Dan Morales is toast in TX and to answer the person below you -- Cisneros couldn't even get elected mayor of SA after the pink elephant and dome dirt scandal he left the city with which cost them millions. He would galvanize Republicans in TX and be defeated.
To: dogbyte12
Is this immediate? Or did he give a date? Like tomorrow? Today? Next year? Just curious. :-) Deej

I know -- I was just assuring folks that there is no way we are going to lose that seat.
