Rewarding illegal aliens with amnesty would be a financial loser for American taxpayers and a political loser for both Democrats and Republicans, according to an analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data and a just-released Zogby poll.

Although President Bush has ruled out a "blanket amnesty," he and Mexican President Vicente Fox are expected to announce the outlines of a new immigration agreement that eventually would have the same effect as amnesty.

If it involves granting illegals citizenship down the road however you call it its amnesty. That's the key issue in designing a "guest worker" program. If aliens are allowed to work in this country it should be a revocable privilege and not an entitlement or right. The President is kidding if he thinks he can sell an amnesty program to American voters. As an article in today's Frontpage.com edition observes its commonly assumed the California GOP lost the Hispanic vote due to its support of Prop. 187. Wrong. The Hispanics were Democrats all along and what actually cost the GOP support was not among California's Hispanics but its whites who were turned off by party leaders perceived pandering to Hispanics on bilingual instruction and backtracking on enforcing limits on illegal immigration into the U.S. Sure the President and the GOP could pick up a few Hispanic votes but at the cost of turning off reliable base voters who don't want more immigration period. As I see it its not really a tough call to make.

I'd compare the consequences of this Mexican invasion to the ones of slavery, both in social and financial terms. America of 21st century doesn't need any low-skill ignorant serfs.

and let them change things where they live - people respect people that can shoot back - everyone else is just gun fodder and had better shut up.

I doubt a third-worlder with an AK is going to build a prosperous society. At least that's not how it's been working out so far. And that's exactly the problem why the influx of the illegals must be curbed, that and financial burden they place on the society.

Try making a "guest worker" leave, good luck! Especially the one who came here illegally in the first place. It's their way or highway and they mean it. One thing is clear, none of the illegals should ever be eligible for permanent resident status. One thing most useful would be denying automatic citizenship to the children of the illegals.

It should be an easy call.
1. No vote, when you get worker status your name and thumbprint go on file. Registering or voting is a trip home. (Otherwise, the GOP is through)
2. Citizenship later, Well first resolve how this takes a place away from someone who is following the laws. Finally ensure English fluency and law abiding behavior. (No gangs, no arrests, no missed tax filings, no social services) What, you mean you want free hospitalization and medicare while you are on the worker program? Why not buy these services and cut a little out from the money you send back to Mexico so Fox does not have to inplement any programs in Mexico.

If Bush does anything that hints of any sort of forgiveness toward these illegal alien pests... no matter what it's called (regularization, guest worker, etc.).... he's likely to be all done in politics. Watching that arrogant Fox on CSPAN address a joint session of Congress is enough to gag a maggot. Shameful.

All indications so far have been that Bush is set on legalization. At least one thing is already clear: he rationalizes it as a just thing to do and has given "respect" to the illegals. Indeed, that alone is enough to gag a maggot.

I'm sure that we will see a movement demanding reparations for illegal immigrants who were paid less than the prevailing wage.

Hello,

As a current Immigration Inspector, I would like to inform everyone about what is going on in INS.

On the amnesty issue, IT WILL HAPPEN.

Currently the administration is working on a NAFTA visa. This visa will be available to all illegals currently in the US and anyone from a NAFTA country. It will allow low wage workers into the US. Once in the US, these workiers can asjust status and become resident aliens, which leads to citizenship.

Amnesty by any other name is still amnesty.

You may be a Yankee, but you are exactly right. The total and utter LIE is that illegals exist solely off of the minimum and low wage jobs they do that "lazy" Americans refuse to take. Nothing could be further from the truth. In reality they immediately apply for every single social welfare and public assistance benefit program they can, with some programs designed specifically for them and applicable to NO ONE else. That is how it is possible for an illegal alien criminal to afford brand new cars, TVs and electronics, and still have disposable income for discretionary spending on material goods most people cannot afford because THOSE taxpaying suckers are footing the major bills and expenditures for these people. That's what is making millions upon millions of illegals pour across the US border in tsunami proportions. They ain't coming for the minumum wage salary that can't even support a legal citizen in our society and they ain't livin' 18 to a house either. They are feasting on the banquet set for them by political whores desperate for their ILLEGAL votes and by the truly lazy, fat assed bloated government social welfare and public assistance bureaucracy and all their counterparts in local municipal, county, and state levels, not to mention the emerging international ones via the United Nations. Only a low grade moron would welcome massive criminal illegal entry and residence with the attendant titanic social welfare expenditures that comes along with it. Unfortunately, there are an overabundance of imbeciles that either cannot or will not see the reality of this nightmare situation.
