It will be very easy for you to say, "Well, I will do something, some day. When I can afford it, I am going to." But would you let an old "grad" tell you one thing now? Giving is a habit. Get into the habit now, because you will never be able to afford to give and contribute, thus to repay the obligation you owe to those people who made this college possible, if you wait until you think you can afford it. Start now regardless of how small, and in the days to come when you are confronted with demands for many worthwhile causes and charities I think you will find that you will give dutifully to all the worthy ones. But here and there you will pick one or two that will be favorites, and you can do no better than to pick this, your Alma Mater, because you will not only be repaying your own personal obligations, you will be making your contribution to the very process which has made and continues to keep America great.

Are you willing to spend time studying the issues, making yourself aware, and then conveying that information to family and friends? Almost two centuries ago a group of disturbed men met in the small Pennsylvania State House they gathered to decide on a course of action. Behind the locked and guarded doors they debated for hours whether or not to sign the Declaration which had been presented for their consideration. Fine, now that you are no longer a 'missing person' {;~)

No challenges that I am aware of either at this moment. The phantom fisherman(aka 1John) has indicated he will surface again sometime this afternoon. Last night, the boat was so full we 'spooked' the fish. We had 15 or 16 of us trying to catch an itty-bitty TROUT. Got the yacht rented for later today, so if we don't catch fish, we can party!

Shortly after, a few 'BIG FISH' riled up the whole lake.(Threads 21-23). Keeping score was nearly impossible(Right, BADJOE?), but, I think, it's almost squared away now.

This thread began in the summer of 2001 when a core group of aggrieved refugees set sail from their old home and washed ashore here at Free Republic, the Ellis Island of cyberspace for those who truly cherish the Constitution.

But what began as a mere port-of-entry has since evolved, thanks to the hands extended by so many veteran FReepers, into a true FRiendship Society. Yet immigrants everywhere must soon find a niche from which to develop as citizens. And so it seems only natural that we of 'the exodus' should build upon our initial welcome by announcing the grand opening of the:

'FReeoples Bar & Grill' !

We hope it to be an informal kind of place where all those with a dedication to our Nation's founding principles may feel free to pull up a chair, meet their friends, spit on the mat, call the kat a bastard, conspire on new projects, compare notes on goings on, and just generally unwind from their respective days in the trenches.

All we ask is that, at least once per quarter, you generously tip our landlord, Mr. Robinson.
