[history]
TOLEDO, Ohio -- President Bush yesterday said he would ask Congress to legalize Mexican aliens if they would take jobs others pass up and called for the abolition of laws that bar American companies from employing border-jumpers.
"I mean, the truth of the matter is that if somebody is willing to do jobs others in America aren't willing to do, we ought to welcome that person to the country and we ought to make that a legal part of our economy," Mr. Bush said as he and Mexican President Vicente Fox prepared to depart the White House for Toledo.

Yes, I'm sure the Bush apologist will soon show up and tell us all how good this will be for the American economy and all of those innocent embryos that want to live.

Nope. This is it partner. The nation is a parody of itself, but this article is just what Joe Friday asked for. "Just the facts..."

If you're serious I'll tell you what I would suggest, but I'm not going to spend twenty minutes writing my thoughts down to have you dismiss it in five words or less.

Come on, Freepers! Let's get on the Critters at mailblaster.com and free2fax.com! White House: 202-456-2461 (fax), president@whitehouse.gov, 202-4564114 (phone)! It's time Bush learned that he's a one term President if he keeps insisting on open borders or any "newspeak" which means open borders and amnesty!

You posted that note on $30 billion in additional costs. Couple that with the US's share of that $100 billion in third world debt the US and others want to forgive, and all of a sudden you've got a fair amount of money. Sure glad you're rich fella! We're going to need you to bail us out!

"I explained this to President Fox, that there are many in our country who are undocumented and we want to make sure that their labor is legal. And so part of the issue is how do we match a willing employer with a willing employee, to recognize the value of the work, and to legalize that part of the process."
Is this guy for real?
"Globalization must never forget it has a human face,"
Oh, say, can you see?

"I mean, the truth of the matter is that if somebody is willing to do jobs others in America aren't willing to do, we ought to welcome that person to the country and we ought to make that a legal part of our economy," -Bush
In other words, if we (elites) are unwilling to pay decent-enough salaries to attract citizen workers, we want to bring in third-world workers to work for less. We don't want to compete by the laws of supply and demand. We want to CONTROL supply and demand...
To: JohnHuang2
If this happens, I can see many many more illegal immigrants comming into the US to take undocumented jobs. And I'm sure that many of these jobs pay much less than the going rate for proper workers. (If not less than minimum wage) I don't think employers are hiring illegal imigrants because they can't find US citizens who want to work. I think it's because they don't want to pay the wage that would be expected from a US citizen. Bush needs to be straightened out on this issue.

If you're serious I'll tell you what I would suggest, but I'm not going to spend twenty minutes writing my thoughts down to have you dismiss it in five words or less. I am real serious. I am a SoCal native. My mother has her elementary school pictures, from the 1930s, wherein about half of her classmates were brown skinned kids. They were probably children of field hands. Among my close lifelong friends are Vietnam era vets, who happen to be of Mexican ancestry. One is a lawyer, another has an MBA.
Bush has stated this is a complex issue, and I agree. He is taking a shot at a risky issue, and it will require ALL THE DETAILS. He hasn't filled those in, yet, so maybe your ideas will be fruitful. So if you have seriously thought it out, I'll eagerly consider your ideas.
If your solution includes the identification, and deportation, of millions of current residents, I'd say that isn't practicle or even possible. So I guess I've dismissed that. I've also seen the recent Zogby poll, concluding that amnesty is opposed by a majority of Americans. That seems to be ruled out, if for no other reason than political re-election strategy.
Good presidents have the political courage and political skill to deal with difficult issues. I have not yet seen details from anyone's proposed solutions, so you can be the first.

Considering how few on this site are upset about what Bush is doing, I don't think the USA will last much longer.
Over on the DOW thread they are all wondering why the market is taking a nosedive. They can't seem to figure it out. Sheesh!
