I received this from my grandson's public school second grade teacher. More than the content of the poem, its encouraging to know that there are thinking, rational teachers in the schools. There's hope yet for our kids!.
- Subj: BUT PURPLE HAIR IS O.K.? a must read...
- Date: 9/8/01
- From: XXXXXXX
- Subject: But purple hair is okay?
Since the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord's Prayer are not allowed n most public schools anymore because the word "God" is mentioned.... a kid in Arizona wrote the attached NEW School prayer. I liked it....
- Now I sit me down in school
- Where praying is against the rule
- For this great nation under God
- Finds mention of Him very odd.
- If Scripture now the class recites,
- It violates the Bill of Rights.
- And anytime my head I bow
- Becomes a Federal matter now.
-
- Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
- That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
- The law is specific, the law is precise.
- Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
- For praying in a public hall
- Might offend someone with no faith at all.
- In silence alone we must meditate,
- God's name is prohibited by the state.
- We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
- And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
- They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
- To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
- We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
- And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
- It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
- We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.
- We can get our condoms and birth controls,
- Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
- But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
- No word of God must reach this crowd.
- It's scary here I must confess,
- When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
- So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
- Should I be shot; My soul please take!
- Amen
If you aren't ashamed to do this, please pass this on. Jesus said, " If you are ashamed of me," I will be ashamed of you before my Father."

Not ashamed. Passing this on . .

This was supposedly written by a Columbine student....
But if I remember right, it was discovered to have been written by an elementary school teacher from Ohio.
Either way, it's very telling.

In Virginia, students in public skrewels are required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. In fact, there is a shortage of flags for each classroom, so some kids find themselves reciting the Pledge to a shot of a flag on a television screen.

About 6 years ago (the last year my son was in public skool) I asked him if they recited the Pledge. "No." I asked if there was an American Flag in the room "it's behind the teachers cabinet."
Meet the teachers night was interesting. I asked her about the Pledge: "we don't have time" I asked where the American Flag was, and it was being used to hang her coat on behind some shelves. I told her that was a disgrace...etc.
Trying to leave on a friendly note, I congratulated her on her obvious pregnancy..."Oh, she said, it was planned that she would never consider an unplanned pregancy"...I said funny thing, I definitely was not "planned" by any stretch of the imagination and glad my mother didn't find her pregancy 'inconvenient.'
Needless to say, it was a few short months before my son was removed from that snakepit FOREVER (God willing).

(okay, okay, it's not that simple... but it's still amusing)

One of the liabilities of using FR as my primary news source is that I miss the local stories. Can you direct me to the source that says that the schools do not have enough flags? I will personally see to it that this situation is corrected.

As long as there are exams or tests in school, there will be prayer.

Will the prayers be directed to the God this country was founded under or a witch in a tree?

I saw a TV news report last week of a new school opening in Arlington. The school's spokesperson was so proud of the 40 flags from around the world displayed in the lobby. Said the flags represented how diverse the students were, helped to make the foreign students feel "at home".
I would rather see 40 American flags in the lobby. It would remind the students that they are in the United States, the land of opportunity, their new home.

The fastest and best way to change the public school system is to pull your kids out.
Homeschool, private or church schools. There are many options.
The government school systems are beyond healing, they have a stage 5 cancer.
It's just a corpse.

I beg to differ. With God all things are possible..... even raising the dead.
Some of us have been called to stay and fight the good fight. And we are being obedient to that call.

Since you are using biblical analogies, I say let the dead bury the dead.

I wish you well. You're going to need it.Four children, two graduated in Christian colleges, two in High School. All well educated, all strong Christians living for the Lord, and all say they are stronger in their faith because of their experience in public schools.
No funeral necessary here. There are some of us who are called to this, and some schools worth fighting (and praying) for.
