I think it is an interesting parallel that today we are, militarily, at our weakest since the late 1970's, when Jimmy Carter was our president. I remember well the hostage taking by Iran and other terrorist groups and our impotence to do anything about it. With all due respect, I strongly disagree. This is what happens when we become TOO civilized. We forget the true nature of the Universe. The Universe DOES NOT PROTECT US, and DOES NOT CARE WHAT HAPPENS TO US, NO MATTER HOW HORRIBLE OR UNFAIR IT MAY SEEM TO US!

I actually heard a sermon by a Priest that contained the message that the Universe is not fair. This IS the crux of the matter. The more comfortable, and safe our lives appear to be, the more we forget the true, BRUTAL nature of life in this Universe.
