By all accounts, America is embarking on a daunting task of ridding the world of terrorism. Our government is carefully wording communications with the American people to prepare them for war. It is starting to appear to be inevitable.
So, lets be prepared. In WWII civil defense networks were set up all around the country. Citizens were trained in communications, first aid, and an number of other skills useful for when disaster strikes. I believe in order to prepare ourselves for the coming days, we should start up our civil defense training and networks once again.
I am planning to meet with the local sheriff, fire department and concerned citizens in my area. I would like to bring information about the kinds of training, communications, and preparedness information we should present to the community. Many of the preparedness techniques from WWII would be useful to learn today, and I would like to hear from freepers who might be knowledgable in the area.
If you were to set up a civil defense network in your area, what would you do? How does one prepare for a chemical or bioterrorism attack? How much can our disaster preparedness techniques be use in civil defense? I believe it is time for our communities to prepare. You knowledge and comments would be appreciated.

QUESTION:Why are we not being told to REPORT SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY? Why are there not Government "Public Service Announcements" running on TV and radio along with an 800 number? Is there ANY DOUBT that there are a number of these terrorists right where they were before Tuesday, that is, LIVING NEXT DOOR TO YOU????

Anecdotal evidence: My former husband's friend's wife was at the beauty salon (in Washington state)last Thursday. All of the ladies there were talking of the recent events and expressing their horror when a woman sat up and said "I'm from the middle east and the only reason I'm here is because my husband is going to school. If I were in the middle east I'd be preparing for war against you". I think the ladies were too shocked to do/say anything. I was surprised she left with her hair.

We could start by tossing all the jackass gun laws from GCA of 68, to whatever the gun grabbers passed last week, and put every red blooded American over the age of 18 on the street armed 24/7/365.
There are still plenty of "terrorists" living among us.
Our borders are porous, and allways will be, you just can not stop someone that is determined to get in, they'll find a way.
It is time, past time, to bring back the Fully Armed American Citizen.
It is time to bring back a FULLY ARMED United States Civilian Constitutional Milita.
Enough innocent people have died already, it is time for America and Americans to get Serious.
In country terrorists will have to be fought close up and in person, you sure as hell are not going to do it with an empty holster!
Our Police (Federal/State/Local)are going to be stretched to the max in the days/weeks/months to come, we can not back these brave soles up with empty holsters!
Those Liberals and War Protestors who wish to only aid the ememy, well folks, maybe it is time they we rounded up and put inside the barb wire.
I left plenty of my blood on a foreign soil, have no problem spilling it on American soil for the protection of our Constitution and its people - BUT - my patience is wearing very thin with those who wish to degrade our POTUS, and protest what they don't even understand.
UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL, just that simple.....

The best civil defense resource I know of is the
Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine. The have extensive documents covering shelter construction, ventilation, and both immediate and long-term survival. It is indispensible.

Most states have conceal carry permits. If you can shoot a handgun efficiently and are so inclined to carry one, do so legally and do so evry time you leave your home. Be mindful of public restrictions such as banks, etc.
It is not against the law to carry an unloaded shotgun in your vehicle, as far as I know, in any state in the US. Carry a nice pump or double barreled shotgun and store #2 shot shells in a separate l;ocation in the vehicle ... don't store them close to gether or the gun loaded and you are not breaking the laws as yet, though chuckie schumer, hatellary clinton, diane feinswine, and barbara boxsh!t are working on that. It would be a good idea to have a cell phone in every vehicle. You don't have to have a service for it, just dial 911 if a true emergency arises.
As for organizing, GOOD IDEA and do some personal and home prep for when/if a terrorist act causes chaos in your area ... food, water, communications storage, evac routes, etc.

So out of all this stuff in this website, http://www.oism.org/, what do you distill out of it that can be used to prepare civilians for the kinds of disasters that might hit? Given the fact that the disaster might be from terrorism or war, how does one prepare? Remember the Gulf war, when families in Israel knew that missiles would be flying their way? How did they prepare?
