Yes, this is pretty trivial considering everything else. But can anyone tell me if New York Press is still functioning? I haven't been able to log onto www.nypress.com to read Mugger or anything else since the 10th.

NYPress.com has always been a good read to find out what's happening in New York City. Can New York FReepers tell us whether they had servers in the WTC (I seem to recall their offices were elsewhere)? Is the print version hitting the streets?
Where are ya, Mugger?

I miss my beloved obsessive, cranky wild man, Mugger!!

I'm
very reluctant to bump myself, but things are scrolling off into oblivion pretty quickly today . . . .

I've been wondering the same thing. I think they were in the Tribeca area which is presumably close to the WTC.

I am sure their internet connection is in the mess of building remains as mine. The telecommunications infrastructure under NYC is in the heartbreaking, awful rubble along with the dead and missing. Below the World Trade Center
was the world's densest nest of voice and data lines in the World. My T1 ISP provider, Verio, has lost several of it routers from the collapse. Also remember the major telco in the northeast, Verizon, has a building right next to the WTC.
I finally got in touch with our Emergency Disaster Recovery center today. According to the tech (great guy), their Disaster Recovery plan did not account for two Boeing passenger jets to slam into the World Trade Center, for those two towers to collapse and the surrounding area brought to ruin within a 24 hour period. I couldn't be ticked off, it wasn't in my corporate plan either (now it is with the Empire State and Chrysler Building as the targets). They did a great job keeping our connection up after the disaster. Verio was able to keep us connected until Building #7 crumbled down. Hopefully we will be back up in a day or so.

I asked this late last week. I think Tribeca is near the WTC, I believe it was in the closed-off area.
I haven't seen him on Jewish World Review either, his last posting there is August 29.

Thanks. I didn't realize how concentrated the telecomm was under the WTC and now that I think of it, I don't regularly hit all that many NY-located sites. For this Northwest resident, the Internet has been operating pretty normally throughout.
Obviously, that's not the case for those in and around NYC. Pretty much what I suspected.

I'll be checking that green box tomorrow for the new edition - there's going to be some incisive content in my favorite NYC weekly. One column I think I'll skip right over this week though is George Szamuely - I just can't bear the anti-American perspective in this situation.

Thank you for asking this question. I've really missed MUGGER. He calls 'em as he sees 'em.

Please let us all on this thread know if it comes out, what it's like and whether they have any comments on their website, ok?
To: Hank Rearden
Sure, I'll tell you if they mention anything about website, at least. I think the new editions come out on Tuesdays, but I usually get it on Sat. morning.

Hey NYers: any sign of the print edition of NYPress on the streets this week? If so, anything about website status?
Thanks.
