Questioning the President's Actions In Time of Crisis
09/17/2001
During times of crisis it is natural for people to look to their leaders for hope and inspiration. Such was the case this past week following the horrific terrorist attack on American soil. President Bush rose to the occasion with his solemn and resolute response.
Overwhelmingly, Americans responded with approval to his actions. An NBC poll released on September 13, 2001, just two days after the attack showed that 80 percent approved of the president's handling of the of the crisis so far, eight percent disapproved, and 12 percent were not sure.
Sadly, some members of the media were among the eight percent that disapproved and used their platforms to question his leadership. Consider this oddly gossipy exchange heard on ABC on Wednesday morning, 09/12/2001:
Claire Shipman: "Some people on Capitol Hill and in the security community are wondering about why the White House was so quick and so open with the information today that the White House itself and Air Force One may have been a target. Not that they're suggesting that information is wrong, but there is a thinking among some that the White House was eager to put that information out in order to make it plain that President Bush had to spend his day yesterday flying around the country instead of coming straight back to Washington, that there may have been some politics involved in that decision. . . "
Peter Jennings: "[W]e're all pretty skeptical and cynical about Washington." . . . "People in the political establishment are saying what we're getting is a story from the White House today to explain why the president was traveling from Florida to Louisiana yesterday, under what we thought at the time was the pressure of his security detail."
Shipman: "Nobody is saying that what the White House and also the attorney general has said is not accurate - it looks plain from a number of sources that there may have been a plane aimed at the White House. People are just wondering" about why the information was put out so quickly and is "something the White House is eager, obviously, to make plain."
Hmmmmmm!Anonymous sources providing cheap political shots, it sounds like to me! Implying irresponsibility, planting the seeds of distrust. This is sneaky, low, and under-handed business.
Disgraceful, indeed, that Jennings and Shipman would use their positions for cheesy political dirty tricks during a time of national crisis. Let's tell them exactly what we think of their shenanigans. Here is the contact information:

My dear brother and sister FReepers,
At this, of all times in my lifetime, I would like nothing more than to be able to read these threads and reply to them. I have much I would like to say.
BUT, I cannot!
Why?
Because I am trying hard to raise the finances needed to keep FreeRepublic up and running so that we can continue to share valuable information and respond to it.
I beg you, if you have not yet donated to FreeRepublic this quarter, do so now!
I realize you are giving to lots of Relief efforts and I encourage you to do so. But we need to help FR too. Where would we be right now without it?
If you have no money, please come and bump the Fundraiser Thread.
I would really like to reach our goal quickly so that I and the rest of the dedicated FReepers who are working the Fundraiser Threads can participate in what is undeniably the most important time in FreeRepublic's history.

Listen Peacerose...look what you wrote:
"Hmmmmmm!Anonymous sources providing cheap political shots, it sounds like to me! Implying irresponsibility, planting the seeds of distrust. This is sneaky, low, and under-handed business."
If your last sentence doesn't describe this nation's shameless, disgraceful media to a 'T', I don't know what would.
Yes, today's Lamestream media's precisely that; a "sneaky, low, and underhanded business" & frankly don't think it could've possibly been said any better.
-BTTT-...because the miscreant media's really showing their *true colors* now.
Letter ready for tomorrow's mail... good job, Peacerose!
