My dear brother and sister FReepers,
At this, of all times in my lifetime, I would like nothing more than to be able to read these threads and reply to them. I have much I would like to say.
BUT, I cannot!
Why?
Because I am trying hard to raise the finances needed to keep FreeRepublic up and running so that we can continue to share valuable information and respond to it.
I beg you, if you have not yet donated to FreeRepublic this quarter, do so now!
"And if you have donated, God Bless You, please ping your friends, and FReep on..."
I realize you are giving to lots of Relief efforts and I encourage you to do so. But we need to help FR too. Where would we be right now without it?
If you have no money, please come and bump the Fundraiser Thread.
I would really like to reach our goal quickly so that I and the rest of the dedicated FReepers who are working the Fundraiser Threads can participate in what is undeniably the most important time in FreeRepublic's history.

Adam, Harry, and anyone else who put themselves at risk to help him -- My hat's off to you, and "long may you run."
I also saw an interview of the man who "rubble surfed" down from one of the floors in the eithties...absolutly miraculous...
Which is exactly what they did last Tues. Pete headed upstairs to his office and Stephanie started walking uptown. Before she got to work she heard the first plane hit Tower 1 and immediately started running back toward the WTC.
Meanwhile, Pete just had enough time to get to his office when the first plane hit the opposite tower. He and a bunch of other people started down right away, which saved their lives - they had reached about the mid 50s when the second plane hit their tower. Pete estimates that if he had waited even 5 more minutes, he would have been right in its path, or close enough to be fatal.
Stephanie by this time was pretty frantically searching for him, both towers collapsed while she wandered around looking, going from hospital to hospital hoping against hope, til about 3 pm when they suddenly spotted each other on the street! In all that confusion and congestion of people. Can you imagine the reunion?
My husband ran into Pete at the store the other night and Pete said not a scratch on him, other than his legs were still sore from running down 90 flights of stairs in an hour.
I'm feeling some gratitude myself, as my husband worked downtown until six months ago. His office was in the Woolworth Building and he used to take the Path into the WTC also. I must have received half a dozen phone calls from people who thought he might still work there.
