Friday, September 21st is National POW/MIA Recognition Day.
Ceremonies will be held across the country, including at all major military installations, and the League's POW/MIA flag will be prominently on display. It will fly over the White House, Departments of State, Defense and Veterans Affairs, headquarters of the Selective Service System, the National Vietnam War and Korean War Memorials, all national cemeteries, all offices of the US Postal Service and major military installations, as directed by the Secretary of Defense.
The national ceremony will be hosted by Deputy Secretary of Defense Dr. Paul Wolfowitz and held at 11:00 a.m.
Due to security concerns, the location has been moved from the Pentagon's River Entrance Parade Field to the amphitheater at Arlington National Cemetery.
The guest speaker will be the Honorable Orson Swindle, retired Marine LTC and a returned Vietnam War POW, currently serving as a commissioner on the Federal Trade Commission.

House OKs trade relations with Vietnam
The United States would have normal trade relations
with former enemy Vietnam
under legislation the House approved Thursday, 9/6/01 on a voice vote.
The Senate is expected to approve it next month. Normalizing trade would boost U.S. companies' access to
Vietnam's 80 million people and improve Vietnam's economy.
Opponents say Vietnam persecutes religious and ethnic minorities.
Lawmakers voted to link future increases in non-humanitarian aid to Vietnam's improvement on human rights.
The pact would remove one of the last vestiges of a war
that ended 26 years ago with the
defeat of South Vietnamese forces and the establishment of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
There are 1,956 Americans still missing and unaccounted for from the Vietnam War.Vietnam's Ability to Account For Missing Americans
I urge all VETERANS to lobby the Senate
before they pass this bill and lobby President Bush to veto it if it ends up on his desk.
We owe it to our Brothers and Sisters who gave their lives and to all our POW and MIA's.

Three years ago I attended a POW/MIA commemoration and service at the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda. Would you believe it, the mother and sister of the MIA who's bracelet I wore then were in attendance!? I introduced myself to them and just didn't really know what to say, but I showed them the bracelet and, well, the look on their faces I will remember forever.

Can we consider the thousands of missing people in Manhattan to be MIA's? They certainly saw more enemy action than they had bargained for.
