September 22, 2001 -- WASHINGTON - Taliban supreme leader Mullah Mohammed Omar has gone into hiding, and some soldiers reportedly were looting homes and shops in Kabul yesterday as the fierce Islamic militia appeared to be losing its grip on power in advance of U.S. military strikes on Afghanistan.

U.S. officials fear the entire country could be split in a civil war between drug lords and tribal chieftains if the Taliban collapses - and no one in the Bush administration wants to occupy Afghanistan with a Kosovo-style peacekeeping force. Civil war? That is what has been going on...

Which means they start killing each other while we watch. Good! Happy hunting!

We haven't even dropped a freaking bomb yet and already the Taliban is turning into a bowl of jelly, sort of like what would happen if Janet Reno and Hillary did a striptease at a NOW convention.

This might be easier than we thought.

Incredible! We haven't done anything yet and they are falling apart?

Hey, Osama! Don't run! You'll just die tired!

Bud McFarlane, former National security Advisor to Ronald Reagan, said about 0 to 60 (or about 1/3) f teh top military officers in Afghanistan are ready to overturn the Taliban, given the proper support & signal from the U.S. and others.

After reading this I can only conclude we should be hearing any day now from the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. (or whatever he is these days) Al "Slim" Sharpton as they attempt to mediate with the religious leaders of the Taliban.

Before we rejoice we should first think what has happened and what needs to be done.

What has happened is 19 men with box cutters have killed over 6000 of our citizens, created a stock market sell-off of almost unprecedented proportions, required a 15 billion dollar down payment bail-out of the airline industry and probably bankrupted several insurance companies. YOu surely could add more.

If a modern Western state, and the world's only super-power, is so vulnerable what actually can be done. Short of becoming Fortress America there is only one thing to do. Absolute terror must be instilled in all our adversaries who would chose to pursue a similar course. This means we must kill many, many of these types regardless of world or popular opinion.

The followers might be martyrs but the leaders are not. They surely treasure life as much as we. They have no wealth to speak of and nothing to lose except their lives. I hope, and pray, that the President means what he said. What I fear is we may not have the courage and will to actually do what is necessary. Already there is talk of trials, UN mandates and so forth.

If this is war, then pursue it like war Mr. President. Better they fear for their lives and hate us, then they hate us and do not fear us.

Yes, that's right, all the USA has to do is *talk* about going into a Muslim country, and it falls apart...

There will be trials for many here in the States, and many will face trials in Afghani courts. But what makes you think bin Laden will allow himself to be taken alive?

The exact point I have been making as well. If the leaders really believed they would be honored by dying a martyrs death, why are they still alive? The rabid followers do not fear death, but you can bet your last dollar that Osama is scared sh!tless!!

We haven't fired a shot and the Taliban is self-destructing. Getting Osama will be much easier than most think.

Better they fear for their lives and hate us, than they hate us and do not fear us.

Right on!

These reports, if true, indicate that:

These evildoers thought we did not have the will to fight back.

Now that they have discovered they were wrong, they are confused and fearful.

It won't be a walkover, but it is good that the enemy is in disarray.

This might be easier than we thought.

It might be. These people don't exactly have their freedoms to defend like we do. All they have to go on is pure hate and a culture that requires 95% to live in extreme poverty while the rest are living it up in foreign lands. They may have little to live for but they have little to die for too. We on the other hand have our Constitution, our freedoms and all the rest.

These evildoers thought we did not have the will to fight back.

I think these tribal people tried to judge us in the context of their own culture and thought our divisions and bickering were like theirs. They assumed we were a very split and divided country, they assumed Gore was over one tribe, Bush over another, blacks are one, whites are another, hispanics another. We also tried to judge them in the context of our culture and thought when they came and lived here they thought it was good with the freedom of religion we have so they could worship, we are tolerant kind good people and we thought they could become that too.
