Strange sight in Sunday's sunset (round two?)
self | 9/23/01 | Tophat9000

Ok this was already ask on a different posting but here we go again. I want to know if any other out there saw something very strange above the sun at sunset on Sunday 9/22.

I am a technical person by trade and a major aerospace, aircraft & science buff and usually know what I am looking at in the sky; I am not one to see UFO’s or visions.

I live on the west coast in the Los Angeles area At sunset, I was diving due west on Imperial Hwy. in to the setting sun. Just above the sun, I noted four bright lights looking to be reflections of sunlight.

To be honest at first I thought there was a launch out of Vandenberg Air Force Base (you see that quite often out here). In the case of a launch, ice crystal will form in the rocker exhaust at high alt. and reflected the sunlight, but there were no contrail just four bright spots.

I then though it might reflecting off four aircraft at high alt. but they stay in the same relationship to the sun the whole time and they did not move independent of the sun I stopped the car and got out to double check it was not a glint off the window.

These four spots stated in the same place in relation to the sun as it set and they could be seen after the disk of the sun set below the horizon for a short time.

I watch this for a good ten min. standing in a parking lot, until they disappeared below the horizon.

There also seem there were a few other people in the lot that were watching the same thing.

I saw something similar late in the day on Saturday (from La Crescenta area looking to the west)my 6 year old nephew alerted me to it saying "it's a shooting star.....make a wish". Out of the mouths of babes, eh?

People see odd things in the sky all the time, of that there is no doubt.

Exactly what they see is open to debate.

But since you didn't see a really bright flash of light, followed by scorching heat and cyclonic winds it clearly wasn't a nuclear missile strike.

Probably not missiles with chemical warheads either, given that you're still alive.

Biological weapons are less sure. Any strange aches or pains?

Probably just a routine outbound re-supply mission to one of our secret bases on the far side of the moon...

I don't know what you saw but I personaly have seen many things in the sky that I question.I have also seen some things that there is no question as to what is wasn't such as plane, swamp gas or whatever. In these apocolyptic times of war and rumors of war we may be seeing all sorts of things such as cropduster planes,ICBM's and the absence of light from the sun.

I hope you are donning a flameproof suit ... with regard to what you saw, who knows? ... hopefully they were 4 extra-super-long-range cruise missiles aimed at Osama-bin-pukin's ugly mug ... (just kidding)

Is this what the woman was talking about who said she had stared at the sun for 45 minutes?

It was probably a host in the sun when you stare at it for 45 minutes.

It's been happening a lot lately.

Sundog. Caused by certain air conditions. Back during the English' "Wars of the Roses" the sun rose with 12 of such.. they call it "the sun in splendor" and have a royal badge made from it somewhere. (Will have to ask D.J.McWOW about the exact data, as she's the historian of the family.)
Here in NY, seeing a sundog (or four) isn't all that unusual at sunset. (Usually, they stay at the 45 degree angles from the sun, but exceptions have been seen.. see above.) You can look it up online at weather sites and science places.

I was think it might be some kind of odd astronomical events

As for it being:

"....just a routine outbound re-supply mission to one of our secret bases on the far side of the moon..."

HA,HA very funny, you people sometimes! I am NOT the tin foil hat type

....everone knows the secret bases on the moon are on the near side so they can watch the earth ;>

Well, sure, we've got them there too. They're the ones that control the stock market and keep tabs on the location of every Plymouth auto ever made.

I was talking about the ones on the far side that keep the slobbering alien hordes at bay.

Jeez Louise... You have to explain everything...

Could a satellite or space station have that effect?

Was there any color to the bright spots, or were they pure white, or were they diffracted like a limited rainbow?

Sundogs ... good call Darksheare

I just looked up sundogs(cause by ice crystal reflecting sunlight) on the web and it seem to fit somewhat what I saw

As I wrote it did look like the ice crystal that will form in the rocker exhaust at high alt, just not in a trail.

But it was very wild looking to see the sun with these four bright "star" above it looking like a crown

It's hard for me to speculate on this unless you tell me how many hits you had done.

Looks pretty cool when they do this strange rainbow effect. I've seen cars drive off the road here while seeing sundogs. One guy screamed into his cell phone that he was about to be 'probed by aliens' he then sped through a 35 zone doing 60 to get away from the vicious man-probing refracted light with rainbow luminosity. (Remind anyone of Al Gore's noctiluminecent clouds?) AlGoo was speaking of Auroras though...

Now that just silly!

It too dark on the dark side of the moon to SEE! the slobbering alien hordes! .....Hello!! that why they call it the DARK SIDE!
