Hey people - Any German speakers out there?
I thought just for fun, I'd translate that old German Christmas carol - "O Tannenbaum! O Tannenbaum!" ("O Christmas Tree") directly from German into Afghani. But my German's a little rusty, so I could use some help. Here's what I have so far -
O Tah-lih-bahn! O Tah-lih-bahn!
Ve kutting auf yer branches!
O Tah-lih-bahn! O Tah-lih-bahn!
Ve nook yer last de-fen-ses!
Ve think yoor boughs bin Laden too long,
Ist time to hear der Chainsaw's song!
O Tah-lih-bahn! O Tah-lih-bahn!
Soon yule be naught but ashes.
INSERT PICTURE HERE:
A pile of sawdust decorated with Christmas tree lights.
Or maybe a splintered stump with an Afghani-style turban hanging off one side, and a broken AK-47 nearby with a bumper sticker on its stock reading -
"I [deaths-head symbol] NY"
Good job.
I once saw a patriotic Christmas tree, on display in Dayton's in Minneapolis years ago. IT WAS GORGEOUS and would make a fine tree in any American home.
It was covered in tiny bunting, flags, and all sorts of red, white and blue baubles and lights.
If you REALLY want to cheer yourself up this Christmas, think about doing a patriotic tree.
I'll think about it, but my father, Akmed el Dakmar Moushubibi might get upset :-)
